On a recent visit to Charleston my wife and I had dinner at Amen Street Fish & Raw Bar. The food was fine, although my wife's salad with blackened tuna was good on the amount and preparation of the tuna, but the salad part was very basic, mostly just lettuce. The unpleasant part of the meal came when paying. After our server left the bill I glanced over it and was puzzled that the wine we had ordered was billed at $4 above what I remembered from the menu. However, since I no longer had a menu to check I decided that I had misremembered. However, as I completed the credit card transaction I tapped the automatic 20% tip option, and the amount showed up on the final receipt at $1 and change above my mental calculation. I decided to confirm my impression using my phone's calculator and I confirmed my impression. Since at that point the transaction was already finalized my wife and I decided not to make an issue of it. On the way out, however, I decided to confirm my suspicion and looked at the menu again, and indeed the wine had been overcharged. In short, the restaurant cheated us of $5+. If you do decide to eat here check the bill very carefully before paying, and do your own tip calculation.

The shrimp and grits was beyond delicious. The crab soup was seriously the most incredible and satiating thing I’ve had in years. I will be returning.

The food was excellent! The waitress was very informative of things to visit. The interior was very eclectic, with all kinds of different periods of... but somehow worked.

My cousin and I were reading the menu outside when our waiter Michael, opened the door and invited us in! We had the best meal of our visit to Charleston! Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection!! The service was southern hospitality at it's best! On my next trip to Charleston Amen Street Restaurant will be my first stop for lunch or dinner or maybe both!

We ate on the sidewalk. There was construction happening across the street, but it was STILL a great experience!
