“I'm in town for work and I left the hotel around 7 on a Tuesday night. Parking on Granby can be difficult but found a spot about a block and a half away. Not too bad. They have a one way awning that allows the 4 people sitting at the sidewalk high top to see out without having foot traffic in their face while they enjoy dinner. I didn't have a reservation so I was sat in the two top in the back by the bar. I didn't catch the server's name but she seemed like a character. She let me know about the 3 course special with tortellini as the main and then went through some of the popular items on the regular menu. I was eyeing the short rib so when she mentioned it as a popular item I was sold. The short rib is probably a 6-8oz portion served over the Carolina grits and roasted veggies. Originally, I thought the veggies were undercooked small redskin potatoes but after a few more bite, I think they were radishes. The short rib was excellent. It had a lot of flavor with some fatty parts. If I had one critique I'd say it was a little on the salty side (I don't like much salt). The grits were very creamy and a great compliment and helped tone down some of the bold flavors in the red wine sauce. I don't normally do dessert but since the entree was so good I thought I'd give it a shot. The server said I couldn't go wrong with any of the four options but the toffee pudding was the way to go. I'm guessing a date cake is along the same lines as a carrot cake. It was very dark, so I thought it was going to have a heavy chocolate flavor. The flavor in the cake was mild and not chocolate. I really liked the texture. I think they put it in the oven before it gets the dollop of whip cream to crisp up the edges. It was a nice touch. The toffee sauce was pretty good. I'm not much for sweets and this sauce wasn't overpowering. The entree and dessert were great. The service was better. I don't make it to Norfolk often but I'll make it a point to come to Codex the next time I'm in town.”

“Best crab cakes I’ve had in all of Norfolk. Every time I have eaten here my dish has been amazing. I know their menu changes depending on their specials but the seafood gumbo was delicious and their rockfish special was some of the best white fish I’ve ever had at a restaurant. And every time we go we get the oysters as a starter and they never disappoint. The seafood they serve is high quality, service and atmosphere are great. This place is a hidden gem in Ocean View.”

“I absolutely recommend this place! Their food is somehow better than their coffee and their coffee is immaculate! I ordered the K BBQ grilled cheese and the char was just a hair more than I’d traditionally prefer but that didn’t affect the flavor in the least bit. Despite the flaw, the sandwich was a 10! Don’t get me started on this amazing atmosphere. In an environment as rich in local coffee shops and K BBQ I’ll absolutely be coming back here. They’ve managed to make a returning customer effortlessly! 10/10 recommend!”

“I don’t normally leave reviews but I highly recommend biryani hub. We were actually going to the restaurant next to it when we happened to see Biryani Hub. We decided to give it a try and was not disappointed. I’m super picky with Indian food and never really ventured out of the chicken masala. Yesterday I tried their goat Saag gosht (goat) and it was absolutely delicious. The garlic naan is a bit on a tough side but still delicious. Definitely coming back here”

Local coffee shops can be so hit or miss unfortunately when you're someone who actually like straight up coffee and the art of coffee, but this place is absolutely legit.The vibe in this shop is also on point as well and I love the industrial setting. I would curious to see how the space could be reconfigured a bit to add in additional seating as I have gone before and there be too many individuals camping on four tops. All coffee shops struggle with that i guess.”

She said the potato salad was very good. I had the 2 Soft-Crab sandwich with cole slaw as my side. The crabs were unbelievable... maybe the best I have ever eaten in a resturaunt. They were cooked the old fashion way, powdered rather than battered whitch has seemed to have become the norm! They are served on a bun but I requested the bun be substituted for buttered white bread. When the two large crabs were served onTexas Toaste that was generously buttered. As for the Cole Slaw which was described on the menu as being Carolina style it was unlike any Carolina style I have ever had. But I will say it was excellent. It was more similar to an Asian style. Our server was Ashley who was friendly and attentive! I will be asking for her when we go back as we will be returning again very soon!!”

“My friend and I visited Hokkaido Sushi on a Monday evening and found the restaurant bustling with several occupied tables. However, we were seated promptly upon arrival, which was a plus. The waitress was attentive right from the start. We explored the all-you-can-eat menu, starting with miso soup, a refreshing house salad with ginger dressing, shrimp sunomono, and cucumber salad. Moving on to rolls, I enjoyed a variety including a tuna roll, spicy California roll, rainbow roll, dragon roll, and shrimp roll. Each dish arrived fairly quickly, and the portions were satisfying, showcasing the freshness of the ingredients. The ambiance was conducive to conversation despite other diners around us, maintaining a quieter, intimate atmosphere. The only minor setback was waiting a bit for the check, but overall, the experience was delightful. I'm looking forward to returning for more delicious sushi soon.”

“Visited Grandiflora on Thursday April 4th with my husband and son who lives in Norfolk. What a wonderful experience. Atmosphere was very warm and welcoming, loved the decor. Food was delicious. I have no real experience with natural wines but Kate was amazing! Upon arrival, she explained that she was the only FOH employee and asked if we could sit in the living room instead of the lounge, where I had made a reservation for. Of course we had no problem doing so, it was the first visit for all of us and I honestly just picked the lounge because I didn't know anything about the space. She was so enthusiastic about sharing her knowledge of the wines it was contagious! Kate picked both wines I tried and they did not disappoint! She worked that room, multiple tables seated, with the same enthusiasm she shared with us, spending quality time with each guest. Truly great at what she does! We will most certainly be back on our next visit.”

“i've lived in norfolk for 10 years and cafe milo by far is my favorite restaurant. i first ordered off of doordash and the food was phenomenal, but the other day i ate there w/my best friend and the vibe and customer service eating in was unmatched!! sitting at the bar while the chef cooks was an experience in itself! so much good conversation and the experience felt like a chefs tasting! ive never ate anything bad from cafe milo and tell people about their lambchops, their vegan dishes, and the mimosas and their BLT is everything! cafe milo does NOT miss!”

“I made a reservation at Monastery Restaurant for a large group to celebrate my dads 70th birthday. They were AMAZING! From the classy decor, private dining room, delicious food, great wine, to meeting the owner and all the amazing staff, every part of the night was top notch. The restaurant is not geared towards children but they made accommodations for a few of our younger guests, even making meal suggestions that would appease them. We will definitely be coming back. Upon arrival, she explained that she was the only FOH employee and asked if we could sit in the living room instead of the lounge, where I had made a reservation for. Of course we had no problem doing so, it was the first visit for all of us and I honestly just picked the lounge because I didn't know anything about the space. She was so enthusiastic about sharing her knowledge of the wines it was contagious! Kate picked both wines I tried and they did not disappoint! She worked that room, multiple tables seated, with the same enthusiasm she shared with us, spending quality time with each guest. Truly great at what she does! “We came in right after opening on Taco Tuesday! We were greeted by Nick. He is amazing. Nick was positive and upbeat. He acted as our Host, Server, and Bar Tender. He deserves a raise. Our food was fresh and delicious. As was our drinks. The atmosphere of the restaurant was appealing. The only reason why I didn’t leave 5 stars is bc of the restroom. Being as though we came right at opening. The restroom was disgusting. I can only assume that I wasn’t cleaned the night before. However it looked as though it hadn’t been cleaned before ever! I had to try a Smashburger with Swiss mushrooms and bacon with que sauce and Cajun fries. By the way you can get fries plain, or with Cajun, Parm, old bay seasoning. Cooked to order. “The experience was lovely and a wonderful Night out with my husband. The show was interesting and you had to pay attention to detail. You got to speak with the actors and investigate and learn clues yourself. You actually got to do some self sleuthing. The food great. People complaining it's buffet style gotta realize buffet is meant to be fast and quick but I loved the sweet potato mash and the fruit they served was very fresh! They had a great variety in the buffet line up and kept refreshing when needed. I never had to wait for drinks since they had the 2 bars and the bartenders paid quick attention. The cheesecake was delicious, my lord. So for a dinner and entertainment package, this was well well worth it! I definitely will be coming back and enjoying maverick productions! All the actors and actresses were also very kind and were quick witted with any silly and weird questions asked. So kudos also to the improv!”

“I always enjoy something different, and The Fishing Pig fits that criteria. I mean, whoever thought to pair seafood and bar-b-que? It is located close to downtown Norfolk. The restaurant/sports bar is very spacious. There are lots of TV monitors, and you can see one no matter where you sit. Table service is what you get after the hostess seats you. The tables are covered with paper because depending on what you get, things can get messy. The menu options are complete. You can get a seafood dish, BBQ, or mix. They have kids options also, but I recommend bringing them early cause at night, it's more of an adult environment. Service is amazing. These servers are experienced, friendly, and always available for you. Make sure you tip them nicely if you can. This place has a dive feel to it but is family-friendly. Highly recommend it Happy Yelping!”

We decided to give it a try and was not disappointed. I’m super picky with Indian food and never really ventured out of the chicken masala. Yesterday I tried their goat Saag gosht (goat) and it was absolutely delicious. The garlic naan is a bit on a tough side but still delicious. Definitely coming back here”

I ordered the K BBQ grilled cheese and the char was just a hair more than I’d traditionally prefer but that didn’t affect the flavor in the least bit. Despite the flaw, the sandwich was a 10! Don’t get me started on this amazing atmosphere. In an environment as rich in local coffee shops and K BBQ I’ll absolutely be coming back here. They’ve managed to make a returning customer effortlessly! 10/10 recommend!”
