We are guests that are staying at the Essex resort. We decided to have dinner at the tavern due to the proximity. The food was good, but the service was painfully slow. The waitress forgot to give us part of our meal too. It shouldn’t take an hour and a half for two people to get Entrees. We love staying at the Essex, but we will be dining elsewhere from now on.

My girlfriend ordered the salmon and loved the meat. The vegetables served were literally slop. I ordered the chicken and it was over cooked, lacking in flavor, and the bread served under the chicken tasted like cornmeal. The service was fantastic, our waitress was an absolute rockstar. The worst part was we were sat with a family that was moving unto the restaurant. They were finished with their dinner before we were sat and they sat there for our entire meal. They took their shoes off, screamed at one another, and even preceded to use nasal spray (Nasacort specifically). It was a super awkward and kind of disgusting experience. Would not recommend to anyone traveling thru town.

I really want to like this place, it’s so close and seems like it would be a good dining spot but after a few visits (one takeout and two dine in) I’m just not a fan.On our most recent visit we went for breakfast. The main complaints were as follows: food took over 30 min to arrive and dishes weren’t brought out together so I awkwardly sat there while my husband and part of my son’s dishes arrived. My son’s bacon was both burned and undercooked. My English muffin on my Benedict wasn’t toasted and the potatoes that I asked for crispy were underdone. They up-charged $2 to add choc chips to my son’s pancake and only refilled my husband’s coffee once.For a culinary resort and restaurant I expect better food than this and given the high prices we probably won’t try it again. Bummed.

The Tavern never fails to disappoint, the Tavern is a awesome place with amazing staff that are always willing, welcoming, friendly, provide the best service. The place is very nice no matter if you’re staying at the resort or not. It never ever disappoints. I wish the stake tips would be more frequent (says my friend ?). This is an amazing place the Tavern is awesome with a bar and lots more. Including the fact that booking off Resy is a game changer.In conclusion, the Tavern in Essex is an awesome place it is amazing it is a must do!!!Signed,Parker?Parking: There is additional parking in the back but due to the resort it is mostly filled. The Essex Resort & Spa in general is awesome, but I especially love The Tavern. The food is SO good (what else would you expect from this culinary resort) and I really appreciate the great selection of beers on tap. Also some of the best hostesses, bartenders, and waiters/waitresses! Highly recommend!

A major promotion was underway in our community called Burger Week. Supposedly the Tavern was participating. We visited the restaurant on the last night to enjoy the burger they had advertised as part of Burger Week. It turned out the restaurant had chosen to run their Burger Week promo on different days than those that were advertised. They didn't seem to think this was a problem. Food was adequate. Service was slow. Prices were high, but aren't they everywhere!
Server was super nice. The apple cider mules were made very well. The steak was cooked very well. I definitely recommend you hit up this spot on a weekday as it is a bit busier on the weekends.

The worst dining experience I have had in many years, They sat us down at a table with spilled water and spilled salt on it. Then they put napkins and water glasses on top. The waitress, totally clueless, comes out to take our drink order. I asked her to clean it up, which she did. She brings out my corn chowder which I asked her to return as it was Luke- warm. She brought out a warm bowl of chowder which was bland and tasteless. My wife got a hamburger with cool, soggy fries. The ladies at the adjacent table also complained about their fries. Her hamburger and my steak were warm and edible. I ordered a coffee after dinner and, you guessed it, cold. I gave the waitress an earful and told her to not charge me for the coffee. Ninety five dollars for this!!! I felt like we were duped. Worst part was it was my wife's birthday. Don't eat here!

This restaurant was GREAT. Lovely indoor and outdoor seating spaces, food and drinks were on point, tons of beers/ciders on tap (and the strawberry lemonade special cocktail was incredible), and live music each night in the summer!
