Walking trails to see wildlife, bison, elk, beavers 🦫, wild flowers.
Went in winter time, park is open but every turn/gate inside was closed.
It was -20 but we saw one buffalo which was cool. The trail where they are more populous was closed due to snow, it would have been nice to know before proceeding, though there was a notice posted on the outdoor bulletin boards by the info desk. Manage your expectations and you'll be very happy, nice way to get out of the house in the winter. The indoor fur samples are a nice experience.
Went there at midnight to view the Aurora. Best sighting by far!!
Nice drive to see bison
Not many bisons in winter
Love it in winter, lack of bugs, lack of people on trail if wanting to go solo and not have to be worried about other people. View is great, saw lots of bison, a family of moose, beaver family on beaver pond trail.
The lake gets very gross in summer though do to algae and a lack of variation in pond to clean or prevent overgrowth. Don’t recommend swimming or canoeing a lot.
No visible elk though
We visited in mid September and were greeted to hundreds of bison minutes entering the park. We spotted them in the bison loop, it was genuinely really terrifying being surrounded by them, but also really amazing and I know we were super lucky to have this experience. We even saw a heard on the side of the Hwy outside of the park!
Really cool walking across the lake and seeing a Bison on my out.
Best place to watch wild bison 🦬. Lot's of hiking trails, picnic areas and wildlife viewing stations. Highly recommend.
Nice place
Beautiful area and wildlife encounters may be guaranteed. We went in December and for the first 30 minutes we didn't see anything. Maybe beauce of snow, maybe because of cold. But then all of a sudden we saw a few bisons, one was right by the road eating. I took many pictures of him - keeping a safe distance. Later we saw an owl - funny! Highly recommended but be patient.
We came. We saw elk. We conquered.
Quiet!!!
