We had a big lunch so we decided to just get one “The Bird” sandwich to take home and share it for supper. Big mistake. Sadness ensued! We hadn’t realized what an absolutely amazing sando it was going to be. The soup was delicious but the sandwich was an out of body experience.
It left us wanting MOAR. As did the cinnamon bun which came incredibly close to the dough I remember my Grandmother making. I can see we will be driving out to High River again.
We will take the littles with us to try that super cool ice cream bar at Evelyn’s.

The owners needs to know how a single, senior, female customer was treated today. I came in for a meal at 1:30, ordering the dessert at the same time as a main meal. I did not receive the dessert until almost 3:00, after asking most of the waitresses, who either dismissed me or said it was coming. They waited on several tables of people who came in after me. Many customers finished, paid, and left, and I waited. Finally, one kind waitress who had not waited on me, became aware and brought it to my table. Then when I went up to pay, she said there was no cost because I had received terrible service. She kindly held the door open for me when I left with my walker. I always tip at least 20% wherever I go, but being by myself and a senior seems to sometimes make me invisible. I am always polite and friendly, but today I left feeling so sad. Even though the food was excellent and a kind soul (wish I had asked her name) would not let me pay, I will never go back there.

What a great first experience at this quaint little diner in High River (aka Hudson for Heartland fans) Alberta. The food selection was a great balance of healthy (extensive salad menu!) and indulgent (homemade ice cream and pies). I enjoyed a chickpea salad that was chock full of flavor and a generous portion size, followed by a big slice of Saskatoon Berry Pie with ice cream. The service was warm, friendly and efficient. Overall this was an excellent meal and I would come again and recommend for others to support this wonderful eatery!

Been coming here for years. Today was so crazy. Not enough staff for number of customers. Apparently 3 called in sick. Long weekend.....hummm sick? Doubt it. We had to wait 15 to get a menu then 50 min to get 2 sandwiches with salad. This never happened when Herbert owned Evelyn's. I guess when your staff are young kids you can't expect reliability.

We stopped for lunch here after looking at the reviews and the restaurant lives up to the great reviews. The food is good and the portions are generous in this charming circa 1950’s diner. My only regret was that I didn’t have room for their delicious looking lemon slice and a cup of coffee.

The food and atmosphere were excellent; however, the service fell short of expectations. Our table experienced unusually long wait times for our server, despite other servers passing by frequently. While our meals were served promptly, the lack of attentive service was noticeable. In situations where a server is delayed or behind, proactive communication or coordination with fellow staff could greatly improve the overall guest experience.
Response to owner; Wednesday August 13, approx. 12:30pm - Not short staffed, any of the other girls could have have helped us out. Restaurant wasn't full.
