Our family of FIVE has been visiting Kananaskis Village every year, making it a tradition to dine ar Forte despite the overpriced and mediocre food. However, our most recent visit was our last.
We decided to split the bill onto two credit cards(one gift card). The server mentioned that the tip was included, and we proceeded with the payment. It was only after completing the transaction that we realized the tip was automatically set at an excessive 20~25% without our consent.
When raised a concern with the server , and then the male manager response was incredibly dismissive. He simply pushed a machine in front of us to refund $10 with zero apology or explanation, treating us as if we were being difficult customers.
The lack of professionalism and the cold attitude made us feel discriminated against as Asian. We were so offended that we considered leaving no tip at all, but we held back. This experience ruined our family trip. We will never return to this restaurant, and frankly, this has soured our entire view of the hotel as well. Avoid this place if you value transparent service and respect.

I’ve been going to Forte’s for years to celebrate special occasions like Mother’s Day and New Year’s, and I’ve always enjoyed their brunch. Unfortunately, this most recent visit was deeply disappointing.
The service was chaotic at best. Servers rushed around appearing busy, yet rarely came to the table to clear plates or check in. We were never offered coffee and eventually had to track someone down ourselves. When it came time to pay, our server was nowhere to be found for over 15 minutes, forcing us to flag down another staff member at the service station. Overall, it felt like no one was clear on their role or responsibilities.
The food, however, was the most troubling aspect of the experience. The salads were visibly wilted and appeared to have been sitting at room temperature for far too long. Several items ran empty and only after pointing this out did staff refill them. Worst though, was the fruit flies—everywhere. Garnishes and fresh fruit at the cold food and salad stations were covered with flies, and small swarms hovered around dining tables and even on the ceiling above guests.
I wanted to discreetly raise this concern with a manager, but despite multiple attempts, I couldn’t locate one. Ultimately, we limited ourselves to the hot dishes kept under chafing covers, as there was no way we felt comfortable eating food clearly exposed to flies.
I’ve had brunch at many high-end hotels, and this experience fell far short of what Forte’s aims to offer. A hotel charging $450–$800 per night should deliver a far more elevated, attentive, and hygienic dining experience. Sadly, this brunch missed the mark entirely.

The food was not what you would expect from a hotel like this. Very disappointing. My Caesar was warm. The portion of salmon for a main course was tiny and the gnocchi it came with was obviously packaged. My partners dinner also looked like it came out of a package. He had the veal. Very dry and bland. We were very surprised at the quality of food here as we had higher expectations for a restaurant in a hotel such as this. They are also understaffed which was apparent. This place seems poorly run. Not worth the money .

Absolutely amazing experience Went there this summer, the drive, the food, the viewpoints all in all truly an extraordinary vacation I come to Calgary every year, and I am just pissed that I just came to this place Highly highly recommend
Food was bland and risotto was undercooked. But birthday cheesecake saved the experience.

We were at Forte for our 25th anniversary. Marianne was perfect - not too intrusive but allowing us our space. Great recommendations on the menu as well.and she was lovely as well. Great hire Forte and Mariott:)

We went here for a casual wedding anniversary dinner with our kids and their partners. Relaxed, easy going atmosphere, quick service and not very busy. My wife and I ordered from the menu (she had the lasagna and I had the pappardelle). Both were absolutely great, served quickly and piping hot...top marks to the chef. The rest of our party enjoyed the Saturday Buffett which included a wide variety of salads, appetizers, and mains...they said it was terrific and the variety was exceptional. Top marks all around for this restaurant, we will be back.

we are at the buffet here for 55 CAD. there were mussels, fish, meat, pasta, pizza, salad and desert options. the pizza was not our favorite but the salad options and the meat were really really good. our server julia was also very nice ! all in all would recommend! follow me on insta for honest food recommendations @where.is.shady
