Disappointing Experience – We Won’t Be Returning
My wife, son, and I went in for lunch today and ordered from the menu. Unfortunately, the experience was unpleasant from start to finish. The staff was unfriendly and didn’t check in on us after our food arrived.
To make matters worse, a staff member began sweeping the carpet around our table repeatedly while we were trying to eat—something that felt both inconsiderate and unhygienic.
The food itself was a letdown. Some items were overcooked and dry. We lost our appetite quickly and decided not to complain, choosing instead to quietly pay and leave. However, when we went to settle the bill, a gentleman accused us of wasting food and suggested he should charge us extra because we didn’t finish our noodles, teriyaki chicken, and dumplings.
For the record, we ate nearly everything we ordered except a few dumplings and some of the teriyaki chicken, which was so overcooked it was inedible. When I explained this, he became defensive and claimed our feedback was unlikely, citing their 10+ years in business. For context—I’m 260 pounds and haven’t left a meal unfinished in nearly four decades unless it was absolutely unpalatable.
The place was dirty, the bathrooms were in poor condition, and the service was nonexistent—we had to flag down the waitress twice just to place our order.
If you’re looking for a cleaner environment, better food, and decent service, I highly recommend Dono Sushi, Lighthouse, Oshos west!

I’ve had really positive experiences with Makisu in the past, however when I went last week the sushi was really dry. But what left a bad taste in my mouth was after my friend received the chefs special sashimi, she noticed one piece had almost all skin and no fish on it, and so proceeded to ask for a different one that had no skin or even just one with a different fish. We had to waive the waitress over as she didn’t check in to see how things were. My friend was very polite about it and after our waitress went back to the kitchen, she told us they couldn’t replace it, nor did they express any remorse or give her a discount. Had my friend been mean and degrading, I could understand, but that wasn’t the case at all. Their salads have always been good and still were this past week, but if you want really high quality sushi, I would go elsewhere.

Guys,
The food here is amazing! Everything was so delicious.
Makisu Sushi has quickly become one of my go to spots in Lethbridge for casual, satisfying sushi. If you’re looking for all you can eat Japanese food that doesn’t break the bank, this is definitely the place to check out.

The variety here is honestly impressive. You’ve got all the classics salmon, tuna, spicy rolls, but what really stands out are the specialty rolls like the Mango Roll and Green Dragon. The sushi is made to order, arrives quickly, and is always presented neatly. I especially appreciated the freshness of the salmon and the texture of the tempura items.

Service is friendly and efficient, even when the restaurant gets busy. The staff are always checking in, clearing plates, and making sure everything’s coming out as ordered. It’s a casual, family-friendly environment with a welcoming vibe.

The menu also includes lots of hot dishes as teriyaki, dumplings, noodles which is great if you’re dining with someone who’s not big on raw fish. And for the price the portion sizes and variety make it a great value.

Everything was amazing here 10/10🤤🤤🤤❤️❤️❤️❤️

This was my first time visiting Canada, and I ended up stopping by Makisu — and wow, what an incredible experience! Hands down one of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve ever been to.

Every dish I tried was absolutely delicious — fresh and flavorful. The restaurant itself is spotless, with a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. On top of that, all the staff were super friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better.

I even had the chance to meet the owner, and he was genuinely kind and passionate about what he does. You can really feel the love and care put into this place.

Highly recommended to anyone craving great Japanese food — I’ll definitely be back! 🍣🍜🇯🇵

Really like Makisu, their food is always fresh, and they have a good variety of items. I really like their Coconut shrimp! Their sauce they put on the sushi is good as well.
