We stopped by Hung Uke while passing through Red Deer, and it was an absolute gem! The place is so full of character, and the food was incredibly delicious — homemade, comforting, and reminded me of being back home. The lady working there (who I believe is the owner) was so warm and welcoming, just like a Ukrainian grandma who wants to make sure you leave well-fed. I will always recommend this place to anyone visiting Red Deer — it’s a must-try!

This is the real deal! The food is homemade, fresh, and served hot, and the hospitality is just as good. You'll always leave full, and the prices are great. You can even grab frozen meals to enjoy at home.
I'd say the only other place to find this quality of food is at a potluck in Glendon, if you're lucky!
It's a true hidden gem, and I highly recommend it!

What a little gem of a spot. Authentic food and wonderful service. The food does take a minute but it is definitely worth the wait. Also a variety of frozen food to take home and enjoy. Highly recommended and I will surely be a returning customer

Absolutely incredible experience at The Hung Uke Ukrainian Kitchen. The food was beyond delicious, every bite was full of rich, homemade flavor that instantly made me feel like I was at someone’s family table. From the borscht to the perogies to the perfectly cooked cabbage rolls, everything was prepared with care and heart. What made it even more special was the people. The staff were so kind and welcoming, treating us like old friends from the moment we walked in. You can feel the pride they take in their food and culture, and it made the whole experience that much more meaningful. A special shoutout to Baba and Gido — their warmth and charm made us feel right at home, and you can tell their love is the secret ingredient in every dish. Can’t recommend The Hung Uke enough — I’ll definitely be back.
Absolutely the best Borscht I’ve ever had! We had the best meals ever provided to us at the Williams Lake Stampede!! Thank you ♥️♥️
Absolutely incredible Ukrainian food! Every dish was packed with flavour and felt like a warm hug from a Ukrainian baba. From the perfect perogies to the rich, comforting borscht, everything was made with care and tradition. The service was friendly, the atmosphere was cozy, and you can really taste the love in every bite. Can’t wait to come back!
Highly recommend! Will for sure go there again!!!

Amazing!!! It was so good!
Visiting from the Okanagan. Needed to take my employees out for lunch. Searched local family owned places. Being a Polak I decided to try this Ukrainian place with some Magyar food. Oh man… place was amazing, so many things to look at… then… babcia came out. Funny, lovely, felt magnetism as if she was my family. Made amazing recommendations that we ordered. Pierogi , cabbage rolls and sausage were amazing!!!! Hungarian goulash felt like I was in Hungary. Place also has frozen dishes you can take home. It took me back to my childhood, food my mom, grandma and great grandma used to make. Lovely people, lovely place, outstanding food. Slava Ukraini!
This is a great place to come eat, all the food is fresh and made on the spot when you order and it doesn't take long at all. The owner is super friendly and service is all around amazing.
This is my favourite restaurant in all of Red Deer. Great service. Amazing food. Love the grandma’s dining room decor in the dine-in seating space. Great takeout and frozen take home options. I have family from across Alberta who crave Hung Uke pierogies. You can’t find better pierogies anywhere in this province. I’m so excited it’s summer and I can now bike to Hung Uke to satisfy my cravings for a taste of home.
Picked up the poutine pyrogies to go. They were very delicious. Owner was super friendly and helpful. I also purchased a tray of Nalysnky to cook at home. He explained how to prepare it and I am very excited to try!
