Thai Express Restaurant Red Deer

Extremely Disappointing Experience & Zero Accountability

(Long review ahead, but worth reading if you order from this location.)

I had a terrible experience with Thai Express in Bower Mall (Red Deer) and feel compelled to share what happened. I ordered 3 Tom Yum soups through Uber Eats for my sick family. When the driver was already near my location, he informed me that Thai Express messaged him saying they gave him the wrong order.

The Uber driver explained that he couldn’t go back because he had another customer waiting, and Thai Express only offered him $3 to return, which is unreasonable, especially in -19°C weather. It wasn’t the driver’s fault, and I completely understood why he couldn’t turn around.

I called Thai Express directly, and unfortunately, the situation got even worse. The staff member I spoke to (I believe her name was Em) took no accountability whatsoever. She told me to request a credit through Uber and reorder, meaning I would have to pay another $74 upfront, even though this entire situation was their mistake. She mentioned they could give me the incorrect order for free, but that did nothing to solve the issue. I needed the soup for my sick husband and daughter.

I clearly explained this, but she said there was nothing she could do, even after contacting her boss. Their only “solution” was for me to pay again or drive to pick up the order myself. I was at work and unable to do that. I refuse to pay another $74 for their mistake, even if Uber eventually refunds it, because the money still comes off my credit card first.

Bottom line:

Zero accountability
No attempt to genuinely help
No real solution provided
The boss and staff showed very poor customer service

This experience was stressful, frustrating, and completely avoidable. I will not be ordering from this location

The main chef had quit sometime ago and now food is very bland. This used to be my favorite place to eat. I don’t go there anymore. Sad

Davis and his staff always goes above and beyond. Enjoyed the fresh salad rolls and beef basil stir fry this visit.

Staff were friendly but the broth didn’t taste as good as it has before and the noodles were very undercooked in my soup . I’m so disappointed. Usually the food is a 5/5 but not today ..

We stopped by to eat on Saturday night before we did our shopping at the mall. We both had the Pad Thai, which tasted good. The pricing was high for a take out establishment. $40 with only one drink purchased , will not have us returning. The final insult was when I asked for a refill on a fountain drink & was told no free refills.

I stopped by this mall on my way through town. I am vegan and I have dietary restrictions. The veggie pad thai was fantastic and I like the crushed peanuts garnish. I'd like to compliment Davis in particular. He was very friendly, polite, and knowledgeable about the menu. He quickly picked up that I was vegetarian and made suggestions accordingly. I found out that the sauce, which I was told was vegetarian at other locations, is not vegetarian. I'm thankful for Davis' diligence and consideration. I go to Thai Express weekly at University, but this is my favourite location by far.

Delicious pad Thai, huge servings and great customer service. I really love the food here!

The staff are always so friendly and polite here. I always enjoy my meal, which is well made and for a good price.

25 dollars for mall food is a bit much. Paid 5 dollars for extra meet but even with that I had maybe a total of 200 grams of beef. Food tastes okay, but not worth the cost.

Pad sew with chicken medium spicy is the best dish, I get it everytime!

Got an order of pad Thai with chicken from here yesterday. A couple hours afterwards, i didnt feel super great, and then proceeded to get violently sick a few hours later, to a point where I vomited 7 times in the course of 24 hours. It was the only thing I had eaten at any point in that past 24 hours, so I guarantee it came from this place. Something is going on where they're not storing food at proper temperatures, or cross contaminating/undercooking. Tons of other really good Thai restaurants in red deer to visit, but not this one.
