Haven't been there for a while but annoyed that I have to drive into Edmonton every time I want a decent fish and chips. So decided to finally leave a review. There used to be a solid staff but when these owners took over they made bad decisions and drummed out all the experienced staff. There was a girl being trained by an experienced staff member and she would argue with him and treat him poorly. My wife and I could hear everything that was said in the kitchen. The food was still good as the experienced staff member wouldn't let standards slide. He didn't last long, a short time after he left my wife and I stopped in. My wife loved their clam chowder but with the changes she asked if it was still made in house and the girl serving hesitated then said "yes". My wife got the soup and she knew it was Campbells out of a can. She asked if it was Campbell's and the server admitted to lying. My fish was soggy. We went one more time and I was asked do you want your batter crispy? I didn't know what to say to that as there is only one way to serve a fried fish. Batter golden, and fully cooked on the outside, fish cooked perfectly flakey meat, and melt on your mouth on the inside. That is not what I got this time the fish was dry. There is no hope for this place. I almost forgot they used to have a boat with an inflatable man in it on their roof and it looked terrible. The city had asked them to apply for a permit for the signage or take it down. They were asking patrons to sign a petition to let them keep the sign up. I asked how much was it for them to get the permit they said the city would charge them $80.00. We asked why not just pay for a permit? They said it was too expensive. We did not sign the petition. I assume they didn't get the permit as they let the inflatable man half deflate and left it up there for months before taking it down. No respect for the community at all and the food is trash good job Dochertys!
Who is running this place? They were out of half the items on the menu. Save yourself some time and ask them to tell you what they aren't out of. They don't open until 4 PM and apparently close at 6 PM even though their sign says open until 8. Why even bother being open for just 2 hours? I also agree with some of the other reviews here. The lady working there lacks people skills and comes across as rude. Food was just okay.
If you're looking for decent-priced really-good Fish and Chips, Docherty's is the place to go!Current construction to "Beautify Downtown Spruce Grove" has made getting here difficult, but going through the back alley and parking in their rear parking lot is really a lot easier than parking on the street and trying to back out. I didn't realize there's a parking lot back there! The quality of fish is great - the breading is light and crispy and I wish I bought an extra order of fries - they're awesome! Their home-made tartar sauce is better than you'll get in a bottle and try the malt vinegar - it's MUCH milder and still gives a "bite".
Made it out for 3.14 pie day. Chicken pot pie was good. Restaurant was clean and tons of street parking available outside. Was a little chillier inside so be sure to bring a sweater if you run cold like me. Staff was pleasant.
Food was terrible!!!! Completely flavourless. Tatar sauce is just mayo. Chips have no flavour. Waitress was unpleasant. Rather pricey. Will not be back
Wasn't impressed on a take-out order, however they did make it right!Gave us a meal to make up for it.
Really bad experience. Woman working was totally disinterested and rude. Our orders were rung up wrong and our table was dirty. Half the menu was “sold out”, they didn’t even have lemon for the fish. Used to be a nice place to go. Will not be going back.
Just not a good experience. Staff are rude and disinterested and dining area is dirty and unkept. Fish and chips looked promising until we pulled a never ending long hair out of the deep fried breading. That was enough to lose one’s appetite.
Best place for fish and chips in Spruce Grove. Super tasty coleslaw and homemade chips.
Fish was horrible, waited 10 minutes before order taken, only people there, and told waitress fish was really off, had 2 bites and didn't offer anything else or even half our money back just horrible never again
Restaurantji Recommends
Food is absolutely amazing
Great food definitely recommend!! Servers was very nice too
Not impressed. If I could take a star away I would. No orders after 6pm, 1 hr prior to closing?? Seriously! Attitude, both in person and on phone from the only staff member there. Perhaps she was having a bad day. Eitherway, I won't be returning.
Brilliant. Only thing missing is I'm not in England
what once was my favorite place for fish & chips has become the worse. My dad introduced me to this hidden gem years ago. It was hands down the best fish I've ever had.
