I NEVER leave negative reviews, but I believe it’s important to speak up. This company presents a polished image, but behind the scenes, it’s a different story. The way they treat their young staff with bullying, belittling, and disrespect… is deeply concerning. These teens and young adults work hard, often underpaid and overworked, simply because it’s so difficult to find other opportunities. It’s heartbreaking to witness an employee in tears! I’m incredibly disappointed in this local business. Personally, I wouldn’t feel comfortable supporting a place where the environment feels this toxic 🥺
My mom was one of the hardest-working leaders at Sweet Home on the Lake. She put her heart into this café, showed up early, stayed late, supported every team member, and gave the business everything she had. And how did they thank her? They fired her with no reason, no warning, and no explanation. She was blindsided—and so were we. Let’s just remember, the café shut down without notice, leaving customers and staff scrambling. The owners had just raised $400,000 from the community through a half-price gift card campaign, then suddenly closed their doors. Also remember they were being investigated for fraud by the RCMP. Many people lost money and trust. It’s one thing for a business to struggle. But it’s another to treat loyal employees like they’re disposable—and to deceive the community in the process. This wasn’t just poor leadership, it was irresponsible and unethical. If you care about supporting local businesses that treat their staff and customers with honesty and respect, LOOK somewhere else for your coffee. Everyone can walk in and think that Sweet home on the lake is all cute, and makes for a good photo..but remember, you don’t know what goes on behind closed doors. Karma is a thing. Cody and Eva are awful people. Don’t let them confuse you, just try working for them lol. See what happens.
So … not what it use to be - granted should have known with all the legal issues these guys have had ! Get there no line up …hummm strange … order 4 coffees and 4 treats … 37 bucks hummm a little more than I remember. Go and get some cream for one of the drip coffees - ya curdled. Second drip coffee tasted like soapy water… go and tell them - their response we will just get you another one! What I should have said was… oh yes can I please have some more of the crappy stuff you call drip coffee. Go and use the washroom… 4 rolls of toilet paper not in the dispenser, two rolls of paper towels just on the counter, with half of it being wet. The worse part you go and tell someone and nothing … then they have the balls to say - see you next time ! Ya …sorry no you won’t!
Cutest little place ever.

Went here with a mas on because I had contagious pneumonia and the staff mocked me. Found out later they support the Canadian terrorist convoy movement
DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS
I used to really like Sweet Home, I would make a point to stop by any time I was in Alberta and even ordered from their online store.
Prior to finding out how shady and truly awful the owners are, I found the selection of clothing going down hill. Lots of “mama” and “jesus” clothes. So they were already losing my interest.
Then the bomb dropped about their business practices and I want everyone to know that this is not a business you should support in any way whatsoever. They expanded too fast and relied on the good hearts of their supporters to bail them out under false pretences only to close months later. And then have the NERVE to re-open.
They are trying hard to squash the hate but I truly hope people read the reviews and take their hard earned local dollars elsewhere.
I had a much better experience at the Stettler store.
Staff at this location weren’t very welcoming, and most of the staff and customers were not wearing masks. This made me feel unsafe.
Simply asked a question about gift card use. Got blocked and deleted from the Facebook page
Cannot support a business that are “shady”
I had the pleasure of visiting this business recently. They held a clothing item for me and I'm VERY grateful. The shop has a beautiful, clean and friendly atmosphere. I look forward to bringing my friends and family into this gem!
Thank you SHOL!

After scamming hundreds of thousands of dollars from people in October 2024 this company suddenly and without notice closed. Lack of transparency, honesty and integrity has been an ongoing theme. This was followed by them blocking anyone who expressed frustration or disappointment in their actions. While the owners here often speak of "christ like behavior" they feel they are exempt from doing so themselves!! Avoid shopping here! If you want to support local there are many honest and worthy shops in Sylvan Lake!!
