This is my very first time trying this place, and let me tell you.... I am a huge foodie snob and like my food very flavorful and on point... El Jefe, YOU DID NOT DISAPPOINT! We ordered on door dash.
The flavors. Oh my gosh, the flavors! I had the Street Taco (3 Pieces) in 3 different flavors, as well as the Chips & Salsa:
Honey lime chicken - the pulled chicken was tender and juicy. You could really taste the genuine honey-lime flavor, which I usually dont taste in food from other places. It was delightful.
Spicy pork carnitas - the pulled pork was tender and delicious. It had a hint of the spicy, but not too spicy where you blow your pallete. Carnitas are some of my favorite tacos to eat when theyre made right, and these were perfect.
Sweet and Smokey - my absolute fave! I am not the biggest fan of a "Smokey" flavor in some things, but the smokiness in the pulled pork was just perfection and made my tastebuds dance. I truly enjoyed the taste and savored it after every bite!
The tacos all had the same toppings, which was surprisingly nice! It had some kind of aoli or chipotle crema kind of sauce with tasty seasonings and spices, red onions, lightly pickled jalepenos (not spicy), a small slice of avocado and finished with cotija cheese, and that just brought all of the flavors from every taco together.
The chips and salsa I believe are a bit overpriced, but they were good. Good crunch on the corn chips, and the salsa was fresh and flavorful. The tacos were definetly the spotlight. I am happy to share that personally, El Jefe is the best street taco joint in Alaska! I will definitely order here again and will have to go give the place a visit in person next!! Well done, El Jefe.

I ordered the Barbacoa Beef Tacos and the Street Corn Cup to go. I got back to my room and I realized that I forgot to take some hot sauce like I normally do. I decided to eat them as is and it was delicious! I would have ruined it with hot sauce. Price was good too. We are in Anchorage Alaska. Nothing is cheap here.

I do not understand the good reviews. Maybe they are from people who have never been south of Anchorage. Food lacks spice and flavor. The second star is only for the elote in a cup, everything else I would never eat again.
Nice small place, simple menu. Prices online on the website need updating because some things are double the cost now. I do feel it’s too expensive.
I’ve been here a few times over the years and generally had good experiences. But I went last week and my tacos were.. soggy and bland.
Always friendly service though, thank you for your good service.

Their food is always delicious and their late night hours provide a comfy, intimate place to hang out and enjoy some late night tacos! Their hot sauce collection is incredible with many imported options.

I had a veggie burrito and it just had rice, beans and corn. I was pretty disappointed, the staff was nice but I don't think I'll be going back

This place has slowly declined. I used to highly recommend this as a new and different option for fresh mex, it had unique zesty flavors, great portions, and good hours for late bites.
The last few times I’ve gone though the burritos have become indistinguishable, just an absurd amount of rice to where you can’t even notice the meat. The tacos have also gotten smaller, and even the queso has steeply declined in quality.
I hope they can turn it around, because we really liked this place, now it’s the definition of Mid.
They have quite a good selection of tacos. Did I mention they are absolutely delicious

I order the pork burrito as suggested by the cashier. The burrito was delicious! Top tier ingredients were used for the food. Food was so good that i had to try another item before i left. The barbacoa beef taco is another must try choice.
I will definitely be coming back
