Best sushi in downtown anchorage and my favorite sushi restaurant in town hands down! The service is super warm and welcoming. We did not wait long for our food to come out and the owner checks in on how we are enjoying the food. The fish and uni seems to always be fresh and delicious. My favorite is the hamachi roll. The owner said they tweaked their ramen recipe and now it is my favorite ramen in town and you can get it late at night on the weekends, which I love. 10/10 experience!!!

Been on my to visit list for over a year and finally made it.
The wait was worth it. Very fresh and high end Sashimi options. Beautifully presented.

We were greeted by friendly staff upon entering the restaurant and was served in a timely manner.
Everyone there were very courteous and customer service was on point.

Definitely will be returning.

Fun fact: it is the original and first sushi restaurant in Anchorage, it has been at THAT location for 45 years! Full of history there!!!

My first meal in Anchorage was a bit disappointing. The noodles were not chewy, and the sushi fell apart as soon as I picked it up with chopsticks. On top of that, an 18% tip was added without asking me. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Waitress was friendly and stopped by our table often. Didn’t speak much Japanese. Sushi was sliced nice and thick, tasted good. Kimchi was good, could be a bit hotter. Bulgogi was just the way I like it, with minimal fat and gristle. Portions were plentiful. Rice was not properly sticky and had a non-Japanese off taste- maybe SE Asian rice???

Decent Japanese restaurant with friendly service and good ambience. However, I was disappointed to find out they don't serve local Alaskan Salmon, not sure if other fish served is locally sources or not.

Rude and entitled attitude from server, They charged us a $30 service fee for a “large party” for 2 adults 2 children and a baby. Sushi was generic and overpriced. This is a clip joint.

Great restaurant and atmosphere. Our friends hosted a birthday party here and the staff's customer service was great. Their chicken katsu with japanese curry is DELICIOUS!

We had a very disappointing experience. Before our visit, we called to confirm the restaurant’s hours and were told the kitchen closes at 11:30pm and the restaurant at midnight. However, when we arrived, many items were unavailable. When I inquired about ordering sushi, the waitress told me their sushi kitchen closes at 9pm. I explained that I had called earlier and was told sushi was available until 11:30pm, and I’m fairly certain it was the same person I spoke to on the phone and who was now serving us. Despite this, she kept insisting the sushi kitchen closes at 9pm and even said, “don’t yell at me,” though I was speaking calmly and simply explaining what I was told.

We ended up ordering fried rice, which was extremely oily and didn’t taste freshly prepared. We also asked for an extra plate to share, and she seemed confused, repeating “a plate?” before eventually bringing us a small saucer, which was surprising.

Overall, it was not a good experience and definitely not worth the price. If you have other dining options, I would strongly recommend going elsewhere.

My friends and I were in Anchorage looking for a sushi restaurant that was within walking distance of our hotel and we found Kumagoro. We walked in, got sat right away, and took our time deciding what we wanted to order. Ploy, our server, was very kind and patient with us as we were deciding. As we were ordering, she even suggested we take one of the rolls out and add a different one, for variety. The rolls came out in a timely and orderly fashion and tasted great. Between the 3 of us, we finished our food in under 20 minutes (we must’ve really enjoyed it) and were left very satisfied. Would recommend if in the area!
