Stopped by this food truck after seeing that they sell elote... the way to my heart! I think Mochileros fills a gap in the Anchorage food scene and has some unique options which I can't wait to try. Today, however, I kept it basic with an order of papusas & elote. The elote was perfect, I don't even know what to say about it - if you have had good elote before, then you know. Corn, cotija, crema, tajin, and a lime wedge...how can you go wrong? The papusas are somehow both dense & fluffy, the right ratio of cheese to maza, served with some really good salsa & spicy veggie mix, topped with a little cotija. I was glad to discover that the salsa has good flavor, not just heat, as salsas can really be hit or miss around town. The only negative was that my papusas had a couple (small) extremely crunchy bits that were too hard to chew - my dogs were very happy for those pieces! Other reviews mentioned the papusas have bacon or chicarron, so maybe those were the hard bits. Staff was friendly and full of pride for their food. Can't wait to try more of their menu!

Absolutely amazing food. The flavors are wonderful! Service with a smile every time! This is my favorite food truck in town.

Super friendly owners. Who have a true passion to give you an extraordinary meal. This isn't your typical food truck. They serve a dish that deserves a 1st place medal at any restaurant convention. Not only do they have the food but awesome artwork painted on their converted bus. So you can't miss it when you pass it.

This was an overall disappointing experience after hearing so many good things. First of all the wait and service were quite poor. No smiles from an awkward cashier made the 20 minute wait even weirder. I ordered the mountain pupusa ($16)and it was under and over cooked. There was a super hard substance (that I think may have been cheese at one time) that was so crunchy it felt like plastic between my teeth. The dough itself hadn't been fully cooked but somehow tasted burnt. There wasn't much meat for such a spendy item. Maybe another time things will be better?

This has got to be my favorite food truck in town. They have such unique foods and flavors with all their different dishes. Everything tastes fresh and I never leave hungry. They go to all different parts of town during the week making them easy to find them no matter where you are.

Authentic, high quality ingredients, a must-try. Chicken dobladas were amazing! Owners are kind, personable and they know their ingredients.

Central American cuisine has arrived in Anchorage! What an awesome, and creative addition. More specifically Mochileros is Guatemalan, which I've never had. But, as Andrew mentioned the food is similar to Salvadoran cuisine, which I have eaten. As soon as I saw David B. Post about this place I knew I had to try it. This past Thursday I headed over to the Spenard Food Truck Carnival to do just that. I was not disappointed. The guy who served up was super friendly, and helpful. We arrived kind of late in the afternoon so they were out of some of the items we wanted to try. With the guidance of our server we decided to ordered the pupusa and the mountain pupusa. Absolutely delicious!! I figured that the mountain pupusa was just the regular pupusa with meat thrown on top, and I was wrong. Both pupusas have different flavor profiles, and both are delicious!! I love pupusas, and these were very well made. Light, golden brown, super cheesy and not too greasy. The toppings and sauces were fresh and flavorful. Even though this meal came out of a food truck it was still presented well, and came out hot! Portion sizes were decent for the price. A little on the small side in my opinion, but I can always eat more so I try not to be hyper critical of portion size. Definitely a welcomed addition to Anchorage, and our food truck circuit. I can't wait to try some of their other items, and also check them out at Anchorage ReMade!

Stop what you're doing and go eat here. I cannot recommend this place though. My girlfriend and I just tried this for the first time the other day and at cannot stop talking about it! We both ordered the Chicken Dobladas and shared an order of Papusas (my apologies if I misspelled those!) and they were amazing! The portions are great and the quality is top notch. Nothing frozen or processed here! If I had to critique anything it would be making the portion of the Dobladas as 4 smaller pieces instead of two massive ones. This would make eating them much easier. I will most definitely be returning!

This week was the grand opening of Gathering AK Cafe, a chef collective that has rotating occupancy at Anchorage ReMADE (side note: I think that is an amazing concept). Yes, the same one that sells awesome repurposed furniture. I wasn't sure what to expect as I'm not at all familiar with Guatemalan food, but my taste buds can attest to the fact that Mochileros has great eats. Except "great" doesn't do this place justice. Exhibit A: flaming hot Cheetos elotes. Like, what? I was not expecting such a trendy twist on this iconic street food. It was very satisfying in a junk foody way. Their chicken dobladas are just like hard tacos, except they're literally adorned by a "skirt" of cheese. There was just so much cheese. Oh, and the pupusas, they're also stuffed with cheese. The saving graces here are the accompanying pickled carrots, onions and peppers that act as the perfect foil to all the heaviness. Overall, I was incredibly impressed and would easily return. Think of it as a fresh riff on Mexican food. Almost like a cooler, more ecologically conscious older brother to Mexican food. Alright, I'm done.

I finally got the chance to try Mochileros at the Spenard food truck carnival and I will be a repeat customer! After having spent a couple years in Central America I missed the fresh, unique flavors from the region after moving north. Now I have a source to satisfy that urge. I tried the Crispy Chicken Dobladas, 2 for $12. Basically its like a Guatemalan version of crispy tacos except much more flavorful. I think the salad is intended to go into the dobladas but I used the pico de gallo as a dressing and ate it as a salad. Because their pico is THAT good and the doblados were amazingly delicious as-is. Their pickled onion/carrot/pepper side dish was delicious on its own or when added to the dobladas. I was a bit worried asking for the hot pickled veggies but it wasn't as hot as I thought it would be. Great service, great prices, friendly staff and lots of delicious food for your money.

This is the real deal!!! No other place in Anchorage has authentic Central American food. Seriously!!! They make their own tortillas on the spot!!! I have tried almost everything on their menu and you cannot wrong with ordering one of everything ;) I have had plenty of Central American food, I have travelled across Central America on a foodie mission ( not kidding) with my parents a few years ago. The pupusas are to die for, and you don't spend the 1000 plus dollars to get to all the way to El Salvador. The majority of the menu is based on Guatemalan dishes like dobladas and other delicacies. The owners, a lovely couple, she ( the main chef ) is from Guatemala and he ( the main mechanic) is from Utah. They are an amazing, down to earth couple, that has blended both of their backgrounds into some amazingly delicious food. As a bonus a little Alaskan flavor ( reindeer) is also incorporated into their dishes. As of now ( March 2019) they are operating our of Re:made on old Seward, just south on the Huffman circle. I cannot wait until their delicious food hits the roads on the bus ( which btw was hand painted by the guatemerican pair). If you want a piece of Central American authenticity with a side of five star customer service I can guarantee you that these folks will show you genuine appreciation for loving their food and welcome you time and time again just as if you were family. Btw- everything is from scratch and I mean everything!!!

So good! I was excited when I heard about this truck, and definitely wasn't disappointed after I visited. The pupusas are amazing!

Well, well, look what we have here! A new type of food never before seen in Anchorage: Guatemalan! (still patiently waiting for Burmese, maybe it will hit the Anchorage scene in 2029) I've never been to Guatemala, but I have been to neighboring El Salvador. I'm not sure how "authentic" the food is, nor do I care, because it's really good! I got a pupusa which is hard to describe if you've never had one. I actually had a few in El Salvador and this one was very similar, but WAY more dressed up with toppings (this is a good thing!) It's kind of like a gooey corn-based flatbread that's often stuffed with cheese. Think of if Indian naan bread and a tamale had a baby. It's something like that. It's kind of similar to arepa. Anyway, I had the "mountain pupusa" special. It was a pupusa topped with a plethora of fresh and colorful toppings. This place is located at RE:Made on Tuesdays and will be at the Spenard Foodtruck carnival on Thursdays, when that starts up again. Definitely give them a shot!
