I haven't been to The Bubbly Mermaid since pre-COVID, but I felt compelled to write a review now. The pandemic has been hard on so many businesses, I commend any that are doing what they need to in order to keep their staff and customers safe. Each time that I've visited the Bubbly Mermaid, the oysters have been fresh and delicious, and they have the most expansive selection of bubbles I've ever seen. The bartender was extremely knowledgeable helping us select several bottles, each were absolutely fantastic. I look forward to returning (with a reservation) the next time I'm in Anchorage!

I have been wanting to try this place when I knew I was coming to Anchorage. I understand Covid times but the door was locked when I walked up. There was one person in the bar plus the owner/bar tender. He said I couldn’t come in unless I bought a bottle for $100. I said no I just want a glass and he said read the sign. Only one person at a time. When I read the notice it said to contact them for reservations. Like I said I understand covid, but they must not want to stay in business if they deny someone a glass of champagne when there was one person in the bar. Very sad. Don’t waste your time.

This place has an unbeatable atmosphere, excellent champagne selection, and very tasty oysters (both baked and raw)! Prices are quite high, but what you would expect from an oyster/champagne bar with very limited seating. Be prepared to rub shoulders with your neighbor whether you know them or not in this quaint, unique Anchorage staple. Arrive early for best seating and help from the knowledgeable owner.

The love of my life introduced me to this place. We are from California but enjoy seafood and champagne when we travel. Bubbly Mermaid has the best selection of champagne. But oyster dishes we have ever had and will continue to make a point to visit annually.

The price point and booking process is making some turn away, but you are getting a 1:1 curated experience with the owner for the time you’ve reserved…it’s a private event! He locks the door and it’s just you, your friends, apollo, oysters to die for, and delicious champagne. THIS PLACE IS WORTH IT.Folks who are complaining aren’t paying attention to his new process. He’s busy, and it’s just him, be patient. It will pay off.

Extremely misleading. Very sketchy. Not professional or forthcoming regarding very reasonable questions. I’m sure the oysters are great but NO info will be volunteered regarding what you should expect to be charged. Again, DEPOSIT ONLY APPLIES TO CHAMPAGNE and according to other reviews, a bottle an hour is required and not optional. Awesome venue that I have been to in the past- the beautiful photos from other posts are real. But the following photos detail a conversation with the owner when I was trying to get information (it is nonexistent online other than reviews- per our conversation as posted below.) Bottom line- eat oysters ANYWHERE else.

Unfortunately… I’m leaving a 1 star. Used to be an amazing walk in location. Per covid and the owners decision to change to reservation only has me insanely disappointed. We have visited the bubbly mermaid a dozen times before covid and we’re never disappointed as it was a walk in and sit down location.From a classic surprise hole in the wall to a snobbish reservation only location. We will be always passing on this spot. Goodluck guys- sorry the fear of covid got ya doing the crazy… maybe one day you’ll go back and not let the fear run your business until then… goodbye.
