The annual Pirate Pub Crawl brings thousands o’ scallywags to the bars o’ downtown for a night of high-seas revelry. This year, Whale’s Tail chose to hoist their flag on the official crawl map, boldly advertising that their galley would be open ‘til 10pm.

After hours of rum and revelry, my weary crew charted a course for Whale’s Tail in desperate need of nourishment. Yet when we arrived at 9:40, we were told the galley was already shut tight. No grub. No explanation. Just a cold shoulder.

This be more than a mere disappointment—it be false advertising, and false advertising on a night when thousands of drunk and hungry buccaneers wander the streets is downright dangerous. When a tavern promises safe harbor and hot food, they ought not slam the hatch before the hour they proclaimed.

Whale’s Tail, ye lured sailors with the promise of supper, then left ‘em to founder. Shame on ye. A pirate knows better than to trust a siren’s song—but I never thought a bar would sing one.

Seared halibut entree was very good. Cauliflower shareable was unique and yummy. Our server was excellent. Live music was waaayyy too loud.

Please do not order the lemonade, it tasted terrible. Not sure if it an issue with the machine. Please do better with the chicken tenders, and the fish and chips. The fries were way too salty. Also the fried cauliflower appetizer was way too greasy. Restaurant space was beautiful, and clean. But the food could be way better.

I was skeptical waking in because it was a major holiday and all other restaurants were booked for large groups. There were very few people in the restaurant and we were able to be sat right away so my expectations were not very high. Some of the best bbq nachos I’ve ever had and four different people, both kids and adults said the chicken tenders were the best they’ve ever had, and my kids know their tenders. Crab was good and cream brûlée was exceptional.

My wife and I ordered the Sharing Snow Crab appetiser. When it arrived it came our entrees arrived at the same time. We said to our waiter that we didn’t think it was good but he said that was just what the kitchen had done. The Snow Crab was DELICIOUS, but by the time we had got all the goodness out of the shells, our entrees were nearly cold. When the bill came we had not been charged for the sharing appetiser but for the main course which was nearly twice the price. They gave us a credit for my wife’s entree but we didn’t think that was fair. As we left disappointed, we then realised that we had been charged $36 for our bottle of wine when in fact it was $29 on the wine list. Altogether a disappointing end to what had been a very good stay at Captain Cook.

This eatery is located at Tower 1 in CAPTAIN COOKS HOTEL ANCHORAGE. While the food is ok, they are very dishonest in billing. I ate there on Feb 18, 2025 for one meal, the waiter took my Mastercard from me and unbeknownst to me double charge me on 1 meal that I ate. Beware of their dishonesty; I suggest paying cash if you ever eat there. Filed a dispute with MASTERCARD and result is still pending for a refund.

The Banh Mi doesn't look like a banh mi but luckily it was yummy. Substitute the fries for a big bowl of house salad which should be a healthier choice. Service was fine and we were also served tap water with ice. I'll come back to try their own menu in the future.

Whale Tail Restaurant was the perfect spot for celebrating a birthday. The steak was absolutely delicious. Will, our host, was exceptional, providing great service and making sure everything went smoothly. The atmosphere was just right for a special occasion, making the night truly memorable. Highly recommend!

Understaffed. Overpriced. One server for 15 tables, doing the best she could. Food was decent at best, but not worth the cost. But it's cheaper than the other places.

Um, weak, disappointing cocktail and food. Shrimps are not fresh and man we’re in Alaska…. Vibe is weird.

And the waitress who THREW the check on the table without even looking at us was nothing but rude.

This place is decorated beautifully. We were late getting into the hotel from the airport and they let us put in an order for food right as they were closing, we were very grateful. The food was delicious and the service was superb.

This restaurant was highly rated but was a big disappointment. The restaurant had one bartender/waitress for the whole place. Ally did an amazing job. Also the food was disappointing. The teriyaki salmon special was good, but the seared halibut was so overcooked it was not eatable. I do not recommend it.

I would go again but just for drinks and dessert. Don't order the steak. It's a waste of money. Where's the season?!?!? Also, I ordered the seafood fettuccine......Where was the sauce?!?!? But the dessert was good. The waiter was amazing. Good spot for cocktails.
