I would go again but just for drinks and dessert. Don't order the steak. It's a waste of money. Where's the season?!?!? Also, I ordered the seafood fettuccine......Where was the sauce?!?!? But the dessert was good. The waiter was amazing. Good spot for cocktails.

I made a reservation only to show up to a CLOSED restaurant. Apparently they close from June to October but still allow you to make reservations. Nothing in their website indicated they would be closed. Very disappointing

Sharay, was delightful Sharan, very efficient! She was the only server taking care of the restaurant, however the 2 gentlemen working with were also exceptional. Their team work made for a wonderful experience for two very tired Texans!

Excellent rib eye done medium rare. Every bite of the 360gm was delicious.

My husband and I dined here for my birthday dinner and it did not disappoint. The filet w/Malbec wine demi sauce and NY Strip w/house bistro sauce were both on point and the Mac ‘n cheese was great too! I ordered the potatoes au gratin last time and those are divine. Our server was excellent as well. The food came out quickly and the drinks were tasty too. I highly recommend Whale's Tail to anyone who wants a boujie night out.

I have been to a lot of places that do steak in Anchorage.......the one I had here was outstanding....they must age the meat because this was GOOD!....I would recommend it to anyone you wants to drop to a new place that is out of the way...........

Great service. One of the best ribeye I've been served in a restaurant in Anchorage. Cocktails on the spenday side...typical hotel prices, I guess. It was a slow, quiet night for Whales Tail on this Memorial Weekend. We were informed they don't have enough staff to keep the restaurant/lounge open the rest of the summer so will be closing after the weekend.

Menu selection was limited, and food was average. The mac and cheese and the desserts were good. Although it was supposed to be a newly revamped restaurant, it looked the same as it had before. It looked like the old bar with white table clothes. The seating was uncomfortable, and the atmosphere left a lot to be desired. The dinner was okay but unlikely we would return anytime soon. Would like to see more options on the menu, better chairs and the entire restaurant needs to be remodeled and removing the dance floor would be a good start.

i love this space and am so glad the Captain Cook opened as a steakhouse. the menu is delightfully sparse focusing in steaks and accompaniments (though this is alaska so there is also fresh seafood) portions are generous; we shared a filet &2 sides. everything was delicious and the service superb and unpretentious. i will be going back!

Overall a fantastic experience. The drinks were great, we had an old-fashioned and a Manhattan. Our appetizer was The oysters Rockefeller and they were great. For dinner we had the salmon and scallops which were wonderful. Dessert was the bread pudding and the bacon snow made it exceptional.

The food and staff were amazing. I think some work needs to be done around ambience though. I think it should mimic a steakhouse more, with dimmed lights, etc. Every light was on and with an empty dance floor, felt a bit odd.

so happy the whales tail is open again best steak around we ordered the 12 oz ribeye and it was perfect and the fried slices of garlic were perfect i ordered the brussel sprouts and the only thing that would make them better is some reduced basalmic vinegarette drizzled on top we took drinks to our room and was escorted to the elevator by the great manager

Oysters Rockefeller were cold. Entrees not accompanied by sides, they are sold separately and more expensive than they should be. Desserts sounded good but were not. Save your money and go somewhere else.
