Excellent food, the fries might be a bit too salty for me so I can probably ask for less. My favorite at this joint is the barn door slammer.

I found this place on one of my Alaska cruises and had THE BEST fish and chips of my life! I got it made with halibut. If you’re a seafood fan, HIGHLY recommend visiting Alava’s if you’re in Ketichkan! You won’t regret it!

The food is so great here! If you're a fish and chips kind of person this is a great place to get them. They have my favorite chowder too.
It's owned and operated by a local family, father, mother and son. They are nice and have good customer service.
The prices here are reasonable for the area, as a seafood city, fish and chips are everywhere, these though are in my top three.
This is a walk up and eat outside type of place, and in wonderful rainy Ketchikan, that's not always great. They have a drive through and that's very helpful.
The only con to this place is, that the food is so good, they are often out of food and have to close early. So definitely get it when you can!

We did some halibut tasting at a few places around town today. We stumbled across alava's when we went into Safeway. By far the best we tried. The melt in your mouth breading is amazing! I have never had anything like it. The claim chowder was full of clams and everything tasted so fresh! The owner was so friendly too! Highly recommend

Had a good vibe about Alava's and the food was amazing. We took a wandering tour of Ketchikan on our cruise stop and came across Alava's and had the best chowder and fish and chips we've ever had. Totally out of the blue experience.

Food might be good but we will never know. Walked from cruise port in rain which is only like 1.1 miles. Only to get there and closed. I called and they said they are closed on sundays. I told them
They need to
Update website because it says open.

Absolutely worth the easy walk from the cruise-lines. THE BEST FOOD we have had on this entire cruise including in Vancouver! Crispy tempura-like fresh Halibut, PERFECT fries, tangy slaw - even better than the salmon bake in Juneau, the batter is divine! Had a fun brief chat with the owner to add to the ambiance- a true local treasure with plenty of local stories.
Skip the whole fake vibe of the pier and enjoy an easy stroll down the street to this place - I sure wish it was round the corner from us in Arizona, I’d be there every day!
