The trip to Halibut Cove on the Danny J was very enjoyable. Reservations are required.

Sandwich is super dry, bread way to thick, and the stew is too salty…..

People are great though, the boat girls and the restaurant people, all great people. But the food……why, why everyone say the food is not worth it? Isn’t it the easy part to improve?

This place is a true gem located on the picturesque Halibut Cove. The Saltry offers a surprisingly sophisticated menu for an unassuming place. The seafood was fresh and the views were breathtaking. All the staff were very nice and accommodating. Our waitress Allison or Alyssa (I'm so sorry I can't remember) was beyond superb. Expensive but worth it. Such a lovely experience.

Food was expertly prepared though portions were small for the price. Atmosphere was unique. I was disappointed to discover a 25% gratuity added to our bill even though our waitress forgot my spouses entree until very late in our experience. I was further disappointed to see an additional charge of $10 added to our bill for splitting the tab even though we were seated at a separate table from the rest of our party. The bill i feel was unreasonable.

Beautiful Dinners! Remote access only by boat, ferry or float plane. Gorgeous artistic setting. The seafood is always perfect. friendly service. Private boats welcome at 7pm seating gives us a great memorable destination dinner for visiting friends who call it a Top Highlight of their Trip!

Overall it was a great experience. The boat ride is slow, but I think that's intentional bc 1. People aren't wearing clothes that can get wet bc they're going to dinner and 2. They need to plan for rough weather, so if you get a nice day they still need to leave / get there at the same time. The food was very good, but I will agree with the comments that said the portions are small. We could've eaten double our entrees and they didn't come with some sort of carb to help fill you up. I'd recommend them to serve their entrees with some risotto or something similar that's versatile that can go along with all the entrees. Our waitress also didn't know the pricing of all the specials they had for the day, so we couldn't tell if the upgrade to the king salmon / adding the scallops were worth it to us. We also should've asked for the pricing on the dessert, it ended up being $18 for a slice of cheesecake which we thought was overpriced. Has we known the desserts were so expensive, we would've only ordered one.

Overall, it was a unique experience that I'd recommend for a special occasion and hopefully you luck out for perfect weather like we did.

We had a truly terrible experience here. The waitress treated us—and the table of four next to us—like we were a burden. Asking for a simple drink seemed to offend our waitress, who acted irritated, slammed food down madly at the table of 4 next to us, and was audibly cursing under her breath as she walked around.

At one point, my husband went to the restroom and saw her literally yelling the “F” word into the woods, clearly frustrated about having to serve us. When we finally received our check, she disappeared entirely—walking down the boardwalk and leaving us unable to pay. We had to knock on the kitchen door just to find someone willing to run our card. The cooking staff were actually very pleasant, unlike her.

We’re kind, respectful people who just wanted to enjoy a beautiful dinner on the water, but were treated like a complete inconvenience. Won’t be coming back.

There is no better place to have lunch or dinner when in the Homer area. The food and service are amazing and only second to the views!

This place is all about the setting. Picturesque. Indoors there are 5 tables and outside a partial awning for coverage, a camp fire and blankets to keep you warm.
Menu is limited ; food was good. Everyone should get to explore the saltry once. The service was 👌!

Can't wait to go back again. Unforgettable experience in the serene Halibut Cove. The food was sensational and you cannot beat the atmosphere. Plus you get a boat trip across the bay! Cannot recommend enough. Service was top tier. Food was best we've had in Homer!

I don’t usually leave reviews, but this one was a letdown. The staff were super friendly and the view was great, but the food really missed the mark. I even asked about portion sizes before ordering because I was worried it might be one of those spots with tiny plates. They said it’d be a decent size… but the fish that came out was seriously no bigger than my thumb. On top of that, it just didn’t taste good. At all. 1/5 for the food. Everything else was nice, but I wouldn’t go back to eat.

Overall, the experience was pretty good. The boat ride was great and our server was very friendly. The food was hit or miss. The salmon pate was good, but the pickled salmon was quite tough and chewy for some reason. The clam chowder was a little bland. The halibut tacos were inedible…VERY FISHY. With halibut, that should not be the case. When we didn’t eat it and notified the server, they charged us for it anyway. They should have taken that off our tab! The overall experience was good, but that was tacky on their part. I would think twice before dining there again.

Magical spot with amazing food! The view from here is worth the trip alone. Too bad all the spam reviews are weighing the rating down because this place is easily 5 stars. I enjoyed the black cod and the broccolini salad was phenomenal🤤
