During our stop at Icy Strait Point aboard Radiance of the Seas, my wife and I had the pleasure of dining at The Cookhouse—and it was easily one of the best meals we’ve had during our trip. After a casual 20-30 minute walk from the ship, we arrived at this charming spot, passing by some interesting historical attractions along the way. The walk itself added to the experience, giving us a real sense of the local history and beauty before even sitting down to eat.
Now, let’s talk about the food—starting with the halibut fish and chips I ordered, which was hands down some of the best I’ve ever had. And I’ve had fish and chips in London, so that’s saying something! The halibut was fresh, flaky, and cooked to perfection with a crisp, golden batter that wasn’t too heavy. My wife opted for the cod fish and chips, and she couldn’t stop raving about how delicious and perfectly seasoned it was. Both meals were served piping hot and with just the right amount of crunch on the fries.
One surprise highlight was the reindeer chili—something you don’t see every day. If you’ve never had it, I highly recommend giving it a try. Where else can you get reindeer chili? It was hearty, flavorful, and had just the right amount of spice. Definitely something unique that added to the authentic Alaskan experience.
The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. With its casual vibe and high-quality food, The Cookhouse definitely stands out as a must-visit spot in Icy Strait.
Whether you're a seafood lover or just looking for a unique Alaskan dish, I’d highly recommend The Cookhouse. It’s not just a meal; it’s part of the Icy Strait experience and well worth the visit.

The famous halibut and chips were soooo good! We also had their cheeseburger, which was great as well! Wasn't busy, went towards 5pm, staff very nice! Plus, you're right by the water with amazing views of the water, mountains then the kids can go play by the water when they finish and see a ton of starfish!
Kid-friendliness: Kids are welcome, and there are great food options for them.

We enjoyed a delicious plate of fish and chips and a massive, juicy burger out on their front porch. Service was fast and the food was very good, yes it is pricey but this is a pretty remote location where food can only come in by ferry and seaplane, so when you consider that it is pretty good deal.

The signature Halibut and Chips was amazing. We also had the fish (cod) and chips to compare the two. They were both great, but I prefer the COD. Again, the views in the area are incredible, and you can watch whales from your table.

Over priced burnt burgers that you will eat in the cold outside weather regardless of you sit inside or out. They leave the doors open without any inside heat even during 30 degree weather.

Yummy fish and chips! Quick service even with a huge crowd. Quaint restaurant on the water. Great location with shopping, etc.

Had snacks and beers here watching some whales playing out on the water. Unexpected and great. Its just a snack type cafe, nothing special inside but good to sit outside.
The food wasn’t bad, I just don’t think it was worth the price.

The overall value is poor. Coffee is of very cheap quality. For just a sandwich with no sides included was almost $19 (about the size of a Carl’s Jr burger).

Try the cannery red ale!
It’s hard to complain when they’re rude to absolutely everyone. They seemed to enjoy each other’s company at least. Like a little Alaskan gang. Food was okay if a bit cold and way, way, way overpriced… even for vacation pricing.
