Excellent! The French fries are so good, you remember why you love them. The halibut was perfect. Great crust, good tartare sauce.
Update 2024. Still a great little diner. I had clam chowder and hubby had a patty melt. With fries of course! The fries could have been a little crisper, but I still stole quite a few.
Service wasnt great but the food and atmosphere were. Maybe the waitress had a bad day? It’s allowed. I’ll def be going back!

After several days of cruise ship breakfasts, our family of 8 stopped into Pioneer diner and ate an incredibly delicious meal. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff, especially Tristen, was kind, efficient and completely excellent in every way. Pioneer featured everything you could want in a diner and I recommend it highly.

Two great meals in one week! Amazing coffee and food quality. You don’t get diner experiences like this very often. Come hungry ready for a meal you could lick your plate clean after. Staff is also amazing, front and back!

Amazing food and super amazing employees, they are constantly laughing and having a good time. Amazing atmosphere and food. Tons of options and they all taste fantastic. Loved it here and absolutely recommended it.
The atmosphere is a DINER. But I loved it, so don't go in there expecting the Ritz. It's not. But it's great as a diner. We were in town on a cruise and decided to get lunch while in Ketchikan. By chance, we happened into the diner. Are we ever glad we did. The food is made to order, so yes, you might have to wait a couple minutes, but when it is done, it is served and the food is still piping hot and delicious. Fresh. YUMMY. There were so many things on this diner menu I wanted to try. I hope I cruise through Ketchikan again so I can come to this diner. The four of us all had different things--I had clam strips that were hot and fresh. My husband had a chef salad that was so huge, that even he with his abnormally large appetite, was hard pressed to finish it all. Generous portions. Hot & served immediately, friendly staff, it's all one would love in a diner. Go--you won't regret it. Just allow the appropriate time. P.S., they have ice cream and shakes and such if you want to just pop in for that. Thanks, Pioneer Cafe--so glad we got to meet you!

Good service, was reasonably fast, as well as reasonably priced for the quantity of food.
I’d rate the chicken fried at 8 out of 10.
The toast was perfect. And the hash-browns a good 7 out of 10. Overall, I would come back.
As for the lemon pie, very nice as well with some coffee.

Stopped in Ketchikan during an Alaska cruise and stopped at the Pioneer Cafe for breakfast. I had the taco omelette and it was terrific. One of the best meals I had while I was in Alaska.

Very friendly, very old-fashioned diner. Great atmosphere and friendly people. Look like mostly locals and not tourist here. Large breakfast menu, which I can’t wait to try.
Cramped diner with lethargic and rude service. Waited 30 min for a table for the waitress to sarcastically dismiss us and tell us we were being impatient for politely asking if we could choose a table in the back.

The food here is well served and the variety on the menu is extensive. There aren't that many coffee options however.
There is no wi fi available.
Here if it is busy, the establishment asks you to sit at the counter/bar area if you are alone.
The bill arrives on the table before you order.
