I visited in 2024 and still think about how great the vegan options here were! Definitely a place that is down to accommodate vegans by removing/subbing ingredients. Food itself is REALLY good and gets double props from me for being as good and fresh as it is in somewhere so remote. Service is also super friendly and the place is utterly charming. If you're in McCarthy this is THE place to go for good, filling, and delicious veg fare.

While visiting McCarthy for a hiking trip, we had The Potato five times in a row. Never got tired of it. Food and drink here is absolutely amazing. The owners take such care in sourcing and curating a great menu that any big city would be lucky to have. They maintain very reasonable prices, and the whole town congregates here. I'd highly recommend the Potato. Some standout dishes: potato head burrito, king salmon special, miso salad, and any of the desserts.

We never expected to find such a remarkable restaurant tucked away in the middle of nowhere. From start to finish, the experience was unforgettable.
The food was simply outstanding. The crème brûlée was a true highlight, crafted with real vanilla beans that gave it an incredibly rich, aromatic depth. And the fries? Without question, the best we’ve ever tasted: perfectly crisp, golden, and utterly addictive.
The atmosphere was just as impressive. The staff welcomed us with genuine warmth, making us feel right at home while still offering attentive service.
This place is an unexpected gem — a rare combination of exceptional food, heartfelt hospitality, and a setting that makes the experience feel all the more special. We’re already looking forward to the day we can return.

Food was the best we had on our 10 day Alaska trip! the staff was incredible accommodating! Atmosphere was basic, wish the heater would have been on but the food and staff made up for the cold temperature inside.
It’s the best restaurant ever. Went every night we stayed in McCarthy, and don’t regret it. Great service, fantastic food. -Burrito -Mac and cheese -Cheesesteak -Chicken Fajita Pita -Soup -Miso Salad and literally anything else on the menu. Order it all and love it all.

WOW. Don’t bother elsewhere in town this has a wide variety and excellent food !!! Dare I say their curly fries seemed hand cut? Wait staff were super kind, flushing toilets, indoor/outdoor seating. Wish we had more meals there!
