One Glorious Breakfast Burrito 🌯
The Porthole Food Truck Review
1400 4th Ave, Seward Alska
My adventure this past weekend took me to Seward, Alaska — down a hole, you could say. The Porthole. 🤣 After a long summer absence, I have returned to the land of reviews and crumbles.
I’ve got to say, I’ve been chasing this opportunity for some time now — mostly because they only do breakfast and lunch service. I’ve read many reviews and spoken to plenty of locals. Word on the street is: if you’re in Seward, you’ve got to slap yourself if you haven’t tried The Porthole’s Breakfast Burrito.
So here I was — a man with a stomach that only one thing could fill. Parked between Ray’s Waterfront Bistro and The Chinook Restaurant sits the little red food truck known as The Porthole. As we walked up, I was filled with excitement. It was finally happening.
Their menu isn’t large, but it offers some solid choices: from loaded biscuits & gravy, to mac & cheese, burgers, breakfast sandwiches, and of course—cough cough—El Grande. 😋 (Just kidding, it’s simply called the Breakfast Burrito.) I’ve been searching for a place that stands above all others in the burrito game. When it comes to finding a great breakfast burrito, here’s my criteria:
#1: Good seasoning.
#2: Even placement of every ingredient for that perfect bite all the way through.
#3: Properly cooked taters. Not soggy, not undercooked—we want that crispy crunch.
#4: Quality meat filler—whether bacon, sausage, or steak. Just don’t burn it or make it solid as a rock.
#5: Salsa & cheese.
#6: That little extra bit. What is that exactly? You’ll just know when you taste it. It’s love, my foodie family.
The owner of the truck was super friendly, and from start to finish we waited less than 10 minutes for our food. Good prices too! And this burrito was no taquito in the size department.
So here I went—full mouth, line, and sinker. WOWZA!!!
THE burrito not only slapped me—it hugged me. With every bite, it was a symphony of ingredient placement. The cheese, salsa, crispy taters (hashbrowns), eggs, and sausage were divine. The sausage left its mark. It came to say hellooooo! I didn’t want to finish it. I wanted that moment to last at least 9.5 minutes longer. 😪 But alas, I was one hungry boy, lol.
Miss Claire and I were blown away by The Porthole. I’ll say it: it’s the best burrito I’ve had on the entire peninsula in years. YEARS, I TELL YOU.
So here are my ratings:
Pricing: 8.5/10
Overall Service: 9.5/10
Flavor: 8.8/10
Would I InPorthole again? You bet your crumbs I would. 😏
So until we meet again, my foodie family—
Catch you around the river bend!
With love and crumbs,
– Cory

The sausage burrito is bangin! The sausage is ground up and you can taste that sage goodness. They put hash browns in there. Crispy. Done properly with cheese and egg. The salsa is a perfect sweet and savory matches perfectly. Staff seem really nice. The surrounding area is breathtaking. Gravy was good.

Who knew the best breakfast stop in town opens up early enough to get food before you hit the water. We loved our food! VERY LOADED. We could have split our meal, so much good food!

What i ordered was supposed to be loaded per the menu but it seems they felt necessary to unload my breakfast. Be aware that you have to walk them through how to do their jobs.

This place is a must try if you come to Seward. They had a limited menu when we were there so we just ordered all three meals available- the dinghy, the deckhand, and biscuits and gravy. All were great and filling. Good portions and not too pricey. Highly recommend this place.

My family stopped on the way to our days excursion. We ordered and the staff was very friendly. That’s about all the good I can say about my experience. First they forgot our orders completely. We waited for almost an hour. We had time to spare when we got to the harbor and we were running by the time we finally told them they forgot us. They never would’ve known despite having ticket numbers. When we finally did get our food we didn’t have time to get the orders fixed. One sandwich came without any meat on it, one barely came at all. Then they informed us AFTER I paid, that they were out of gluten free buns for my wife. So my wife and I are now on a boat tour for eight hours and she had to give the sandwich to my mother who was sans sausage. The food we got was fantastic but not worth the hassle. I sincerely hope someone was just having an off morning because if not then the people of Seward must be much more tolerant than the rest of the world.

This is so good! The breakfast burrito is outstanding! 10/10
Hot, fast and yum!
Breakfast sandwich and vegetarian burritos were big hits.
Breakfast burrito was really good and pretty big.
The biscuits and gravy were filling even though it looks like two biscuits wouldn't be. The chives on top were a great addition.
Appreciate the fast and friendly service next door to our cruise pick up at 7am, wish the breakfast burrito had a sauce on it, next time I recommend paying the extra $2 for a crema option to give it flavor, good local made tortilla
Get the Deckhand it’s the best breakfast sandwich ever! People are super friendly. Not a lot of seating but how could you be upset when you can walk to the dock and eat breakfast with these views!
