Eggs were the worst thing ever, tasted old and kinda like fish. We ordered the country fried steak skillet and the souther skillet and it was visually sad. Country fried steak was dried and the same kind you buy at the store in the freezer section. Southern skillet was a jumbled mess of random stuff that we couldn’t identify. We also ordered 2 steaks. One well and one medium. Both ended up being well so direction in the kitchen is at a loss. Atmosphere was Smokey and cloudy like they didn’t have vents and if they did they probably weren’t cleaned thoroughly enough to actually filter out the smoke. Dirty, uninviting and unappetizing. We will not be back

I ordered a build your own egg omelette. No where in the menu did it say it comes with sauce. Well my omelette came with some nasty sauce on it that tasted awful and the server declined to make things right. I will never go to your restaurant again and will never recommend you restaurant either.

I won't even bother after reading mixed reviews taking note the owner thanked reviewers for 1 star, nothing else. Sarcasm? Yet, didn't thank customers who left great reviews. Although pricey, I'm with the former resident, Fat Mermaid is worth another visit.

So me and my wife walked in and apparently we were invisible to the server. Three people walked in after us and were served before us. So I did I just did the universe a favor and played invisible too and left. My wife is Asian, I guess that maybe the only difference that made the waitress refuse to serve us. Who knows! Hope not!

The restaurant didn't really seem like a breakfast place, despite the appropriate decoration, but the menu offered everything you would like to eat at that time and the service was very friendly. The portions were delicious and huge! A fan would be good for the ambience, the smell of cooking also spread throughout the restaurant.

On our arrival for Hopefully an uneventful breakfast, all empty tables were dirty, it took over 30 minutes to get the table cleaned and at least 45 minutes before the owner come to take our order. My wife was very upset over the rudeness and lack of patience when we found that shortages caused her to order a different meal of this man, who quickly moved to the next table, I mentioned to my wife that I was going to write a review and this man quickly come back to the table and stated he was not going to serve us. Apparently he is over welded and was taken it out on his patrons. We immediately left and was very Welcomed at the Fat Mermaid Restraunt. I have previously lived in Valdez and was very active in the developement of the visitor industry for over 30 years and I am appalled that this town has endorsed this type of performance upon the much sought after tourism dollars. I will never make a referral to this establishment and I will insure he gets the credit as he has deserved.
Never even got our food.. Attempted to go for brunch. First thing you notice on walking in is the poor ventilation. Smoky from the kitchen the whole time and never aired out. Also, floors are old, weathered and sticky (disgusting) carpet. We were seated without any indication of a long wait time for food. Ordered our food (simple French toast and scrambled eggs) and after 1.5 hours with no food, we left. Paid only for coffee. Service was terrible, but I suspect they were frustrated/angry by the kitchen situation and that is understandable (make no mistake, the kitchen staff is 100% to blame for this). However, they should have mentioned that wait times were long so we could have made the decision to wait or leave. Ended up pushing us into the lunch hour, so we got to wait for lunch elsewhere. Waiting all day to get one meal is not how you want to spend a day in beautiful Valdez!

A Nightmare Experience
My recent visit was uncomfortable, unfriendly, and a waste of time and money. From the moment we walked in, it was evident that cleanliness was not a priority. The silverware and cups provided were pre-used and visibly dirty, which was extremely off-putting.
Upon entering, we were left standing awkwardly until we finally approached a waitress to ask about seating. The lack of basic hospitality was glaring. Once seated, the poor service continued. We witnessed a table next to us where only one person received their food while the other had to speak up after a long wait, which speaks to the neglect of not only the establishment but of the patrons that work hard to spend their money on such treatment.
The ambiance attempted to mimic a local decor but was overshadowed by tourist-level prices, making the entire experience feel like a rip-off. When we requested a clean cup, the waitress disappeared and never returned even after 10 minutes. Frustrated and disgusted, we decided to leave without ordering food.
We paid for the coffee we never drank and left a tip despite the appalling service. I strongly discourage both locals and tourists from visiting this establishment. It is filthy, poorly managed, and would make a prime candidate for Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares. Save your time and money by steering clear of Tradas.
