We ordered a chocolate cake with buttercream frosting. It was suppose to have a half moon with a galaxy setting. The cake was bland and a little dry. Hardly tasted like chocolate. The buttercream frosting didn't taste like buttercream. When we ordered the cake, we even drew out a design. It wasn't what we paid for. We didn't get a discount when we said, this was not what we ordered. Needless to say, we don't recommend this place. It's a 1 star dud.

Do not use this bakery. I placed an order for a custom birthday cake, which was only 8” and 2 layers and it ended up being $115. Less than 24 hours after placing the order I had requested a refund because of the transaction not being authorized at that amount. They told me “we do not give refunds under any circumstances” I reminded them that the cake was ordered 2 weeks in advance, and that I didn’t sign anything saying it couldn’t be canceled. On the receipt it says “no refunds or returns on bakery items” The fact that I didn’t actually receive an “item”, and there was nothing to return, should logically not fall into this category or scenario. No items were given, no materials were used. What a disgusting capitalistic, anti-consumer, anti customer service policy. Save your money and time. You can get far better and bigger cakes for much less here in Anchorage. Shame on you @Alaska Cake Studio. I will never give you my business again, and I will make it my mission to deter as many people as I can from using your business.

I recently had the pleasure of ordering a cake from Alaska Cake Studio, and to say I was impressed would be an understatement. Right from the start, the customer service was outstanding. When I returned to pick up my cake three weeks after placing the order, they greeted me like an old friend—no need to remind them who I was or what I was there for. The cake was ready and waiting for me!Now, let's talk about the cake itself. The texture was both moist and light, making every bite an absolute delight. But what really stole the show was the frosting—simply heavenly! The perfect combination of sweetness and creaminess, it complemented the cake in the most harmonious way. It's not just about the cake; it's about the entire experience, and Alaska Cake Studio has nailed it. From the taste to the service, everything exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend them for anyone looking for an extraordinary cake coupled with genuinely great service. I'll definitely be returning for my future cake needs!

We ordered a custom birthday cake with a chocolate base and peanut butter buttercream filling/frosting because Fire Island stopped taking custom orders. Much to our surprise, it tasted like neither chocolate nor peanut butter…to the point that my family thought we all had covid and found some other food to make sure we could still taste. When informed of this, the head pastry chef and co-owner, Will, insisted that nothing was wrong with the cake, declined to do anything to correct the situation, and even declined an offer to try the cake himself to assess what we were talking about and potentially improve his own product. After 2 days, the buttercream filling was separating into 2 layers of ingredients which tasted even worse. At $113 for an 8” cake, this is simultaneously the most expensive and flavorless cake we have ever had. North Star subsequently made the same cake, with both flavors present, for $37. Even if this particular Cake Studio cake was a fluke, treating customers in this manner with zero interest in correcting internal errors that are a liability to the brand should tell you everything you need to know about this company.

We ordered 4 dozen cupcakes for a big celebration, they were delicious. Best of all they were able to provide a half dozen of gluten free cupcakes and that made our GF guests so happy.

This was the first birthday cake I’ve had in about 20 years..chocolate cake with mocha frosting..ok 5 stars for the bottom layer which was moist and delicious and 3 stars for the top layer which was Dry..I’m thinking location in the oven? But it literally should be in the job description to know to rotate the layers so they are evenly baked.the frosting was very very good, silky and smooth, but too much of a good thing..not their fault we should have broke up the flavor with a raspberry filling..definitely would go back and try again.

Service was great!I went because I just wanted a sweet treat so I got a cupcake (good but small) 4.00$ and a oatmeal Scottie sandwich cookie. 4.00$ The cookie ended up straight in the garbage... it must have been sitting in the case for a month. It was so hard I had to break it with my hand ( afraid to break a tooth) and it was very very stale. I won't be back.

Really good, freshly made desert. A little bit pricey but so worth it.

The desserts are so delicious, especially the weird little moose things. The baristas are great and hospitable but none of them knkw how to make coffee. Please train them how to pull a shot correctly.

Based on rave reviews, I ordered a slice of their carrot cake. I was underwhelmed. My favorite recipe is Sam's Famous Carrot Cake on Allrecipes and this slice was not as moist and flavorful as what I make myself. The frosting was a bit too sweet but fortunately it was not over loaded so it was a good balance. There were some other great looking options that I might try while I’m in the area.

The service here was awful.the baked goods were AMAZING. That is the only reason this place got any stars. Our first time here. Probably our last time dining in. Don’t recommend unless you’re getting a pick up order.

Trivia: What's the AK in cAKe stand for?Hodgepodge of merchandise. Aprons, journals, coasters, and paintings. Even fancy flasks for, you knowVery clean and bright. The merchandise is well organized. The desserts are less organized and some, un-labeled. Maybe on purpose so the customer asks about them? "Oh, what is that?!" Which might be okay if the staff was a little more helpful. See below. I've found that the desserts, while very pretty, unique, and decorative, taste more bland than I expect them to. I guess I just expect more pop in flavor. I've picked up dessert, or eaten in three total times. The first time in was a chocolate cupcake that was rather bland. Then it was a bourbon tart that was sort of crunchy, sort of soft, and lacking any bourbon flavor. I found myself worried I'd chip a tooth because some bites were "caramel hardened" hard and others sort of soft. The third was a piece of coconut cake that was spot on, moist, and so tasty. Meanwhile, service was also just okay. Just sort of apathetic? Maybe attempting to not be overbearing? No suggestions. Limited descriptions of unmarked desserts when prompted about them. Also, it would be nice if they had decaf espresso. I've always stopped by in the evening and coffee sounds great with the desserts. But not at the expense of being stuck up late.

Great GF selection. Everything I've purchased has tasted yummy. Despite all of that, however, I am leaving a less than favorable review due to their policy on special orders and cake prices. I ordered a GF cake for a birthday that is over a month away. It is a very small cake. After taking down all of the information she gave me a price around $100. I wanted it frosted with a raspberry filling and some raspberries on top. I made changes to it to get it down to about $70 which still seemed high for a such a small cake with nothing of what I really wanted. I settled for no frosting on the side and no raspberry topping. After a few days to consider it, I went in and asked if I could cancel the order. The receipt says, "No return of bakery items" but says nothing about special orders that have not yet been made. The manager was called. He cited the statement on the receipt even though that isnt an accurate interpretation for customers about special orders. 4 weeks ahead and only a few days after placing the order, I am now stuck picking up a cake, that due to high prices, isnt really what I wanted. So for my birthday instead of being excited, I get to pick up a bday cake that isnt what I want and took many hours of work to be able to afford. This business chose to make a repeat customer unhappy and has now lost that customer. Doesnt seem worth it for them since I love their GF items and otherwise would have continued to come in for smaller items.
