Didn't stay in the hotel, but the restaurant was great! It was the off season so this was the only place open. That said though, the service was fast and friendly and the food was delicious. Particularly the fries. Crispy outside and fluffy inside. Well done!!!
Food was not great. It was the only shoe in town so I ate. There’s a pretty off setting smell when you walk in as well
The Halibut wasn’t anything to get excited over. Prices are fair for the location. If you need a cold beer and deep friend food, it’s perfect. Service was ok. Never checked on us, just gave us the food and drink and left us alone until we asked for a check. I give it 3 Busch lights out of 5.
I find it to be a really good hotel, especially for a place like Whittier. If you’re a true traveler and not looking for luxury, this place is perfect for you.
There’s also a nice bar with food and drinks. I met a great bartender there who made me an Alaskan drink — the Duck Fart. So be careful when you enter the bar… you might leave feeling like a duck 😄!
This hotel is not four star hotel at all, which labeled a four star on google map and misleading me to order it. if I can, I want to give them 0 star. Firstly, the worker’s attitude is really bad. When I arrive, she said your room only have a bed and table. That’s it. You pay so less money and what do u expect? I paid more than $100 for it. She looked down on me and really hurt me.Secondly, the room is not clean and I tried to check the room before I checked in. She said our room was occupied and can’t check with a very rude attitude. Thirdly, they have Overlord clause for cancellation policy. Most people booked that hotel for short-stay one night and who will cancel 48 hour in advance when u are not arriving Alaska yet. It is really ridiculous. I tried to talked to worker to cancel the booking due to the real bad experience. The worker and the boss both use their cancellation policy to persuade me for more than 30 min. You try to talk to them and they just use the same sentence to talk back and forth. Finally, I tried to cancel on their website and I can’t. I make a record and if needed, I can public it here. It is so bad. I never suggest anybody to book this hotel any more. We paid money for nothing and get very angry for my perfect Alaska trip. This is only unhappy thing during my trip. Again, don’t book this hotel.
Excellent experience. The owners were super nice and even picked me up from the airport. Check in process was easy. Rooms were a little outdated but it was a very clean and comfortable stay. It's a bit far from the main areas but definitely an easy walk.
Honestly the worse experience of my life. When I called to book the room I needed it for Sunday , but it was booked for the wrong day .Their website was down so I called. The woman I spoke with a lady who was nice and helped me. However she booked it for the wrong day. When the cruise line informed us we couldnt get off until 10 am Sunday I called right away. I dealt with the rudest supervisor who claimed I was a liar and refused to refund me 189 dollars I was already charged with. She claimed it was my fault and not her associates. She even was rude to my grandma on the phone. We explained we had no idea when the cruise was booked what time we were allowed off . I even told the lady when I booked the room what cruise line we were coming in on and what time we docked. I would never book with this place again nor would I advise anyone else too. The customer service I received was the worst and to call myself and my grandma a liar is beyond uncalled for. You should be ashamed of yourself. I was friendly on the phone trying to explain our situation, I even asked for a half refund because the sitution was neither my grams nor I fault. LESSON LEARNED !! Well be prepared to be screwed by the Anchor Inn.
Our room smelled like there had been a gas can spilled all over it. There was a toxic odor and we woke up with sore throats. We had to get a hotel elsewhere out of town the second night as a result of the toxic odor. We were told we would get a refund but that hadn’t happened yet.
Rooms are basically like dorm rooms if your dorm room smells like smoke and doesn’t have hot water.
We stopped in for a meal before a tour we did in Whittier. Halibut fish and chips was pretty good. It came out quick but we were never given any utensils so we had to eat with our hands. Women’s bathroom had no soap or paper towels.

Nice simple hotel for a visit to Whittier
Stopped into Whittier for a day/night. This is an old military barracks but was comfortable and felt safe to stay. Didn’t get any creepy feels as I saw on some other reviews. Room was clean. Staff was helpful. I would say having better directions to the office would be helpful. But no real complaints here.
The place is very old but kept in good condition. Check-in is fairly easy. Key-pad entry makes it easy (not to worry about losing a key or key-card). The room we stayed was huge (essentially an apartment size) with separate kitchen, big screen tv in living room, sofa, dining table, fridge, microwave, stove etc. Bedroom had its own tv with two twin beds. The view is great (facing the snowy mountain).
Only setback I can think of is, we felt that the room (only kitchen and living room) wasn’t cleaned properly. The bedroom was good.
Walked from the campground to this place as we heard about the history and the food. Well, the bartender could have cared less that we were sitting at her bar ready to spend money. After she finished mopping the floor behind the bar she finally came over to take our drink order. After she put the beers on the bar in front of us I asked if the kitchen was open. You think that would be a clue to hand us menus, but no she meandered off for a while. When she got back in our vicinity I had to ask for menus. Seemed like she was not interested in talking our order as another group sat at a dining table and she proceeded to take their order. Needless to say I asked for the beer tab and it was $14.50 for 2 beers. Handed her a $20 and she left 5 dimes and a $5 bill. I took the $5 and left a $1 instead. Hated it!!!
Every time I stumble upon one of these local gems, I always wish I could stay longer. The room was extremely spacious, with a full kitchen, living room, and separate sleeping area. Perfect for my whole family. Very quiet.
