Nice location and fun decorations. It was fun to look out at the shipyard and watch all the boats coming and going. Halibut and fries were good, we also enjoyed the crab cakes.
Started with the clam chowder which was one of the best we had. Perfect balance of seasoning veggies and fresh seafood. We also had the halibut & chips and halibut sandwich. Both halibut were lightly breaded and fried perfectly. We highly recommend this stop even if you are stopping in Whittier for lunch which is what we did!
We got there around 6 pm on Tuesday. There were people dining but it wasn’t really busy. I loved my halibut sandwich. My husband who doesn’t eat seafood enjoyed his chicken strips and fries. I’ll definitely go back when I visit Whittier next time.
Yummy food.
We ordered, the half and half (which is half halibut and half shrimp), the halibut, and the fish and chips. The fish and shrimp were good, the fries were mediocre. We came again a couple days later after fishing, but they said the wait would be close to 40 minutes, so we left. I’d recommend the Wild Catch Cafe in Whittier over this one, but both are good.
The cafe is closed for the season, with no indication of that being on the case on their website or Facebook.
It was a disappointment to pay the Whittier tunnel toll in order to eat here just to find it closed.
The fish and chips are worth the drive. A little pricey but the menu is varied and portions are good size.

My mother ordered a Burger with fries. It came out Luke warm. No seasoning. They ran out of mayonnaise. The patty was still pink in the center. Don't order a burger from here. Go somewhere else.

Food was OK at most. Forced us (7 people) to tip for 15% without informing us first, and this is a place that you have to stand at the counter to order. Be aware.

1. Dirty
2. Halibut sandwich fillet looks and tastes like the fish and chips. Greasy and dry.
3. Inflexible and rude attitude with limited options to swap out fries with a salad or veggies.
4. No vegetarian options. Every other alaskan restaurant we visited was flexible about modifying their meals to be vegetarian.
5. Crowded
Terrible experience overall. Leave this place and go instead to next-door Whittier Oceanfront cafe if you want a hot meal in a clean restaurant with stunning views of the water and warm, friendly service. Unlike Varly's Cafe, Whittier Oceanfront Cafe even flexibly modified their tacos to make it vegetarian.
Vegetarian options: None and host is not considerate enough to make modifications
Kid-friendliness: Dirty. Probably not the best place to bring kids to.

WOW! What a great little restaurant. The clam chowder is hands down the best I have ever had. If you are in town you have to try it. Everything else looked amazing also. Reasonable prices, quick service and did I mention the chowder.
