We were initially seated right under the extremely loud music speaker (we have a 3 year old and a newborn), so we asked to move further away. We were so hungry and overwhelmed (hello, parenthood!) that we didn't realize we had been sitting without menus or drinks long enough for 2-3 other families to be seated (all with small kids, btw) and waited on. We decided to leave just as a waiter finally came to the table to give us straws for our invisible drinks...the salsa was good, at least!

Burrito Express: A Southern Hymn of Fire and Flavor
By one who remembers, one who returns
In the blistered Alabama dusk, where the cicadas cry out like prophets and the asphalt breathes heat from the belly of the earth, there lies a place—not grand, not gilded, but holy in the way that only food, true food, can sanctify a man’s weariness. Burrito Express, they call it. And though the name rings simple, almost pedestrian, within its walls lies the quiet, slow thunder of something eternal.
You do not go to Burrito Express. You arrive, as one arrives home after war, after exile, after wandering in lands of blandness and sorrow, to find a place where the meat is seasoned not just with cumin and chile but with memory, with joy, with all the ancestral aching of flavor made right.
It is not only a burrito—it is a testament. A monument to balance, to heat, to tenderness wrapped in warmth. And it is fast, yes, but not hurried. Swift, yet with care. The kind of speed that comes only when hands have done the work a thousand times and never once without love.
There is rice there that remembers the sun. There is steak that sizzles with stories. There are sauces that burn just enough to remind you you are alive. And the people—good people, proud people—move behind the counter like musicians, knowing the rhythm of lunch hour like a hymn. They speak in kindness, not in clamor. They look you in the eye and call you sir, ma’am, friend.
And when you sit there, wrapped in the scent of seared peppers and tortillas so soft you could sleep in them, when you take that first bite and feel the explosion of salt, fat, acid, and heat, you understand that this is more than food—it is defiance. It is heritage. It is Alabama made edible.
Burrito Express does not boast. It does not beg. It simply exists. And in existing, it feeds more than hunger—it feeds the soul.
The food was really good the service was excellent, and the prices were great.

It was good.
I have tried half of all Mexican restaurants in Athens, Al as I live here. My family loves this place! The food is the best prepared of all Mexican restaurants that we have eaten at which includes Huntsville, Al as well. My son and I love the #2 steak Quesadilla meal. They cook the steak in butter and grill the tortilla. Most excellent and the kitchen folks deserve high praise.
This was our first visit here. As soon as we got to our table, our server was there right away to take our drink order. My husband got a premium margarita and it was very good! I had the chimichanga and it was plenty big and delicious! Since I didn't want beans, they gave me extra rice. My husband got a steak quesadilla, and he said his tasted great as well! Our server never let my beverage run out and made sure we didn't need anything. In fact, all the servers were very attentive to everyone! We will definitely be back next time we are in town. Las Trojas used to be our go-to Mexican, but service has gotten worse there and Burrito Express food is better and service is phenomenal!!!
Food was okay nothing stands out.
The waiter preselected 30% tip. That made me uncomfortable and irritated me.
Very unlikely to go back for the overall experience. They were packed and doing well so they don't me.
The best beefy Chile Rellenos in North Alabama. We have tried many Mexican restaurants all over Alabama,Tennessee, and Louisianna. Burrito Express is by far has the best Mexican food.
