Absolutely delicious food. I keep thinking about the home made vege meat I had. And the cheesecake was incredible. Almost worth a trip back from North Carolina just to eat there and talk to chef Carlyn again. She’s a very interesting lady. When you go, just make sure you’re not in a rush.

Took my wife (a vegan) here for an early lunch, and we loved it. The food was fantastic, I strongly recommend the Philly sandwich. And the house reminded me a lot of the house I grew up in, so some good nostalgia for me. Chef Carlyn is such a delightful person to talk to, and really makes you feel welcome there. Just an all around wonderful experience, and I'm sure we're going to go back.

Our family loved our visit today. All four of us agreed it was by far the best food we've ever had prepared for us. Even my meat eating children said this was by far their favorite culinary experience. Chef Carlyn and staff were very welcoming and a wonderful conversation. Our children were very inspired by not only her culinary talents but her welcoming spirit. Our favorites were the desserts of course, but also the Seafood Lasagna and Eggplant Parmesan. The soups were delicious as well. I had been craving French Onion soup and it didn't disappoint. Definitely worth the hour and a half drive over.

I don’t even know where to begin… The atmosphere is top notch and the food OMG!!! The food tastes so fresh and it brought back memories of my favorite dishes growing up. If you haven’t tried eating here I highly recommend stopping by.

The food is impeccably made by a chef who has spent decades mastering vegan cooking. Wonderful staff and a cozy atmosphere. An absolute must visit! #Veganuary

My husband and I heard about this restaurant not far from where we live in Florence, AL and decided to try it out on a whim for lunch. ? HOLY. VEGAN. COMFORT. FOOD. We started off the meal with some fresh lemonade and a virgin mojito. Our waitress also brought us water and lit the candle on our table. My husband asked about the fried pickles we heard about because he hasn’t had any since we’ve been vegan. They weren’t on the menu but the owner/chef made us some anyway and they were INCREDIBLE. While we were waiting for those to be made fresh, my husband had French Onion Soup topped with smoked vegan Gouda and house made bread. I had their vegan lobster bisque. Let me tell you, that was the first time I had anything “seafood” since becoming vegan and this New England girl nearly lost her lashes tearing up at the table it was SO good! For most people, that was likely enough food, but we still had our entrees to go! Next, my salad and garlic bread were brought to the table. The salad had some kind of delicious berry vinaigrette and some homemade pickled onions, while the house made garlic bread would have had my Italian grampy come back from the grave to eat! For our entrees my husband had the juicy, flavorful double decker cheeseburger and crispy fries while I had to hold back the tears again over my vegan seafood lasagna… SO creamy, rich, and just divine with some crispy broiled cheese on top. Spoiler alert: I couldn’t finish it! ? We took the rest of our food to go and ordered some cheesecake and butter pecan cake with brown butter sauce to go! While that was being arranged we had the pleasure of meeting the owner and chef herself, Ms Carlyn Saunders who proceeded to chat with us about veganism, her history, the history of the bed and breakfast home, and more… complete with a personal tour! The part that moves me the most is that at 76 years old, Ms Carlyn not only runs the bed and breakfast and vegan cafe with her family, she also offers a wellness program for those suffering with chronic or life-threatening illnesses, AND, literally NO ONE gets turned away. Why? The menu clearly states: “We’re a donation based cafe. Values listed beside each item represent suggested donations, not prices. We’ll appreciate any amount you choose to give. - Ho, everyone that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; - Isaiah 55:1” We WILL be back!!

The Staff of Life Cafe is a true jewel - yes, it is a vegan restaurant. no, it isn't icky food - quite the contrary, our lunches were delicious (and the meat lovers were quite satisfied) - this cafe is located in an antibellum-era house (also hosts a B&B) - the chef is delightful and filled our souls with love and fun stories of her life (after she had filled out bellies with amazing food) - this is one of those 'don't miss if you're anywhere close by' places ..... and, it's pay-what-you-can, meaning that it is for everyone ...

As a wife and mother of 3 who loves the kitchen, with time you learn that the secret ingredient in the kitchen is love and I can guarantee you there is love in this kitchen. You taste it on the delicious food, you see it in the eyes and the smile of the chef and staff, you feel it in the atmosphere of the home. I’ve been to a lot of vegan restaurants and has had been disappointed many times but this one excelled my expectations. From the fresh homemade drinks to the appetizer( yummy broccoli and cheeze), the food was very fresh and so delicious and of course although we were full we couldn’t leave without trying out the desserts ? hubby and I had the NY cheesecake with strawberry on top ? my daughter who hates Carob had the most delicious chocolate (carob) cake, my son had I ice cream macchiato and he gave 10 fingers up for that. You honestly cannot tell you’re eating vegan food at the staff of life. God bless you guys!! We will definitely be coming back.
