Donut Express has the *BEST* donuts in Decatur. They are always fresh from that morning - none are saved and redecorated for the next day like some chains do. The grease used for frying is always fresh, clean and the donut never have that burnt type flavor. Your best bet is to come early, because they do sell out every day. If you come late, good chance they will be sold out of the one flavor you were wanting. My favorites are the apple fritter and the chocolate eclair (pictures shown). They also serve eclairs with custard filling, plain and maple. Today, they had a new seasonal flavor, pumpkin spice cake donut, of course. Don't let the wonky parking lot, or simple exterior/interior fool you.

The people at Donut Express are just lovely and efficient. I pick up breakfast there a couple days a week. Their burritos are made to order and delicious. Croissants and Kolaches are great too. Top it off with some donut holes and you will have no complaints!

Sweet little donut shop in Decatur. I stopped by for a small pick-me-up for the drive home after work.
Parking lot has seen better days but there's plenty of space. There are a few small cafe tables inside if you'd like to sit. The donuts are displayed nicely in a large case. They have a large variety of both cake and traditional donuts as well as kolaches. Decent bit of Spanish signage in the shop, too, which I thought was nice to have.
The gentleman at the register was warm and polite. After some mental deliberation, I got a chocolate glazed and a red velvet cake donut. I was going to try both and eat the one I preferred and give the other to my husband, who likes donuts more than me lol.
I thought the price was very reasonable -- two nicely made donuts for $2.15. They were packaged in a small sack and I was on my way!
After sampling both, I decided I liked the red velvet better, though both were good! The chocolate glazed was just a touch drier. That said, the chocolate glaze wasn't super waxy or artificial tasting, which is a pleasant if slightly unusual find. The red velvet was super moist, cakey, and soft, with a stunningly bright red interior. Oddly it had a slight coconut flavor? I was all in cause I like coconut but I think its proximity to coconut donuts might have been the cause, lol.
I'm not a donut connoisseur myself but this place offered a nice, quick snack complete with pleasant service. Worth a try!
