Mel's has the yummiest cookies, candy and cheese straws! The service is amazing and the overall atmosphere is great! We ordered cheese straws for a wedding and everyone kept going back for more! Melissa the owner is so kind and helpful, she loves what she does and it shows!

I stop here at least 3 times a week. My favorite are the chocolate no bakes - they really are the best. Mel is a cookie, candy and snack artist. When you go the Mel's don't forget the cheese straws. Everyone that works at Mel's is really friendly and very helpful. There is a reason why she has been in business for 20 years - she is the best.

A blessing and a curse. I was told about Mel's by my neighbor and my sons teacher. I went in to buy the teachers cookies and of course I had to get one for myself.... It was yesterday and I can't stop thinking about how delicious the cookie was. SO SOFT, so CHEWY, so moist!! Hands down the best cookies I've ever had. I will probably continue dreaming about Mel's cookies forever. Her baking makes you realize all the other cookies you've had before in your life we're not done right. Hers are PERFECTION! Thanks for the best cookie ever Mel! We will be back and we hope you start serving lunch again soon! I've heard that was amazing as well

I will give these ladies a five star EVERY TIME! The cookies are to die for. Me and my coworkers get cookie from them at least once a week for lunch. The ladies that work here are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. As long as Mel's is open I will be support them even if my wallet tells me not to. My top favorite cookies are: banana pudding and the golden girl

Hands down Decatur's finest cookies! Try the double chocolate chocolate chip or the kitchen sink or the pecan sandy. Really I don't think it's possible for these folks to make a bad cookie.

Just tried to post this on Facebook and was immediately blocked from their page and I can’t find any record of my post. This is in response to Mel’s being voted one of the top 10 bakeries in Alabama. I was working for instacart in 2021. I accepted an order from this establishment for 14 packages of nestle crunch bites from Publix on Beltline Rd in Decatur, Alabama. I arrived at Publix to discover that they only had 8 of the requested 14 packages requested in stock. I attempted to message the customer asking if they wanted to cancel the order or accept the number they had in stock. I never received a response. I delivered the amount I was able to procure to the establishment. I knocked on the door ( they were closed), I attempted to call and message the number on file with no response. I left the items at the door of the business as instructed on the order. I was rewarded by them removing the whole $2 tip on the order and a negative review that impacted my ability to get orders for weeks on instacart. I respect support for local businesses. But I am disappointed in the response from a business that relies as heavily on community support as a gig worker trying to make a living as I was.
As a busy real estate agent this is a great place to get sweet treats for my clients and customers, super friendly staff, and delicious cookies.
