The people here are friendly, polite, and a joy to talk with. The rib plate and pork plate were fabulous! The baked beans, coleslaw, and horseradish potato salad were outstanding (and I am not a coleslaw or potato salad type of person)! You definitely want to stop and get a meal, or two!

This place is inconvenient. Food is good but this place is never open that much. Then don't except credit or debit my have cash or check. Really who carries cash that often. Get up with the times! Also if you talk with the owners about any of this their response is "You don't have to eat here!" or " It's our business we will open when we want!" To me this isn't good customer relations. I live next door to this place and it's rarely open. When the do closes it not just one or two days it's sometimes weeks. I don't recommend this place.

We stop at least once a week when in gulf shores. Great pork BBQ and it's lite on the wallet. Tried the brisket sandwich with sliced meat. Very tender but I'll try the chopped brisket next. Great sauce.

I was a little bummed when he told me they didn't take debit cards. He told me after I ordered. I had my checkbook so I wrote a check. The Barbecue chicken was good. The camp stew was more like vegetable soup. The coleslaw wasn't good. When I eat out I want it to be better than my cooking. It wasn't. Good but not better then mine.

Loved this place. When I found it on Google Maps, the maps said that it was "busier than usual". Apparently the algorithm was not working as when we drove up the place looked closed. It is literally a hole in the wall location, but decided to go up to the window and order. It was the smart move. There was a rare lull in business and so our food came out super fast. The food was so good. The best barbeque I have eaten in a long time. I LOVED the brisket. So good. The corn bread pancake that was used as the top and bottom of the sandwich was so good as well. Also the potato salad had horse radish in it. So unique and so good. As a special bonus, we had a local that ended up sitting next to us and talked our ears off about the many virtues of Gulf Shores. He was great and led us to many cool places there. I can't guarantee if you go to Down South that he will be there for you, but you can hope. As we left, the place was packed. We couldn't have timed it better. Go us! Go Down South Barbeque. Can't wait to get back to you.

Try their BBQ Baked Potato and Bread Pudding. Their BBQ can be served with slaw or without, depending on your preferences. Also, they don't take Debit cards so keep that in mind! Yum! Makes my mouth water to think about their food!

On vacation with the family and decided we wanted some authentic Alabama barbecue. Down South Barbeque did not disappoint. If you want real good barbecue, then this is the place. I am always looking for local gems. This is it. We had the ribs platter and the pulled pork sandwiches. Got coleslaw, baked beans, and mustard potato salad with sweet teas. So good! So flavorful! And good portions. The service was friendly and fast. There is some outdoor patio seating with picnic tables in a screened in porch. Perfect. I am all for low-frills. So, be ready for plastic forks and paper towels. And remember--doesn't matter what the food is packaged in when the food is that good. We will have to get some bread pudding as the young man at the window informed us it is delicious and made by his grandmother. Just remember to bring cash (no debit or credit cards). Definitely a bang for your buck barbecue!! Thank you Down South Barbeque for a memorable meal!
