See below.Dietary restrictions: I have a fin fish and shell fish allergy. Our friends wanted to go here so I checked website before going to see if eating here was an option. I decided the Blue Plate with baked chicken would work. When we got there it wasn't available so decided I would eat the baked chicken from buffet even though I worry about cross contamination on buffets. When I went up to buffet no baked chicken. Asked the cook if I could eat fried chicken. He said sometimes when it's busy they put fish in chicken fryer. So no meat options for me. Then I witnessed a lady from kitchen refill the deviled egg plate with her hands and she had no gloves on. How do I know she didn't touch fish or seafood just prior to put deviled eggs on plate without gloves? It just takes a minor touch for me to be violently sick for 8 hours. Also dinner rolls are served on a plate with fish. So they are cross contaminated. No meat and no bread for fin fish/shell fish customers.I tried to get waiter/hostess attention several times so finally followed him to cash register. I showed him website and told him my concerns. He told me I could have had fried chicken. Who is right the waiter or the cook? All the time I was talking to him he didn't look at me, but continued to play with the sales slips. He did not charge for my meal but certainly this is not an allergy friendly restaurant.

Love the building. Only 1 server for the whole place and she doubled as the cashier. Low staff, food wasn't the best, opera music playing, not busy at all, dessert bar was lacking choices, expensive for what you get.Parking: Few spots on the streetKid-friendliness: Kid friendlyWheelchair accessibility: We had to go up steps to get inside

We went to the gift horse restaurant today. As we walked in, I got an uneasy vibe. Something didn't seem right from the moment we walked in the door.We stood waiting to be seated for several minutes. As I looked around, it seemed that the local nursing home had dropped off all their patients there right before we got there. They were all staring at us the entire time we stood there waiting to be seated. We stood so long and got so many bad looks from the nursing home people that I almost let before we got seated. We were finally seated. I went to the restroom and as I walked by the buffet I looked to see what they had to eat. It did not look good at all. Upon leaving the rest room I took a better look at the salad and food bar and decided I did not want a case of food poisoning today and once back at the table I told my wife and mother the food looked disgusting and I was not going to eat there but they could if they wanted to.They went and looked at the food and decided the food looked horrible and they didn't care to eat there either.I told the waitress that I would like to pay for my can drink and two teas and we were going to go somewhere else. She gave me a weird look and said, "Don't worry about it. I said I would be happy to pay for our drinks and left a $5 on the table. As we were getting up to leave, a lady at the table beside us looked discusted and said, "Are they leaving? Lol.I'm glad I didn't pay 30 dollars per person to be sick the rest of the day. How is this place still open?

Love the food, service, and Southern music. My family would pay more for a good meal in a Christian Conservative Southern Restaurant. So, if you are a proud REBEL, don't spend your hard earned money at some yankee-owned anti-South bigoted place but make it a great event by visiting and eating at the Gift Horse Restaurant in Foley, Al.I had to update and drop a star. We took a couple of friends there for their first time visit and they found the utensils and glasses were dirty. A glass had some kind of black stuff all over it. Not good for first time visitors. You can do better. The food was OK but was not great.

Excellent value. How can someone complain about $25 per person which includes drink, desert, and a buffet with all fried fish and shrimp you wish? I ate lunch at a fast food hamburger place the other day. $15.85 for burger, fry, and drink and wasn't really good. Recognize value! Ambiance is perfect!

What's not to like about the decor and atmosphere in an old church? If you go for lunch, it is never crowded. I haven't been at night. Our server brought my friend and I as much hot, fried fish as we wanted. The buffet is good. It all looks like it was made from scratch, which is rare these days. Some reviewers have said the food is cold. My best advice is to go it when it's first brought out. It is good Southern cooking and at $18.99 for an all you can eat buffet, is reasonable these days. There are soups, salads, fried chicken, red beans and rice, other entrees, and several types of sides, plus a dessert table. I don't think you can beat that. It is tea, water, and soft drinks only, no adult beverages. Overall, a good ole Southern buffet you will come away with very satisfied. I would recommend trying it.

I used to eat here growing up and we always loved it. It is a beautiful building and we loved the Christmas decorations! But wow, the food was not good. The best part was the fried fish and dough balls that they brought out, those were yummy. The buffet was cold and many of the food items tasted legitimately bad. Many items were simply inedible. And it was nearly $30 per person once we paid taxes and tipped! Unfortunately I would not recommend anyone eat here anymore. But there is lots of potential if they can get their food quality back up again!

This place is great! Been dining here for over 40 years, since I was a little kid. Never had less than an awesome meal. The apple cheese is the best! Sad that other reviewers find it necessary to complain about the demographics of other diners, as if that is of any significance. The Gift Horse is a delicious place to eat; a real treat- and the antiquie place next door has a great book selection inside too!

This was the worst place I've ever eaten. I had 2 items that were spoiled. Hopefully I dont get food poisoning. They charge $3.00 for a can of soda.
