My folks had us come down to Hartselle to try Don Alejos. They absolutely love the flaming cheese. I didn't enjoy it as much, tho. It was a Sunday and my mom insisted we get there before the church crowd. The staff was courteous and mostly prompt. The chips were way over cooked for me, tho the salsa was passable. As usual I ordered the Camarones Diabla. The shrimp was slightly undercooked and the "red sauce" (brown like mole) was not spicy at all. The mole sauce was actually pretty good, but it simply wasn't even remotely spicy. Mom had nachos. She asked for a half order and received a full. Dad had flaming cheese and was delighted. Brother had huevos with chorizo and didn't like it at all. He said the chorizo was aweful. The church crowd did start coming in and in the span of a half hour the restaurant was packed. This speaks to the community's support, and probably why they refused to serve beer on a Sunday. So to recap: chips overcooked, camerones undercooked, red sauce was brown and while tasty, not spicy, and no beer on Sunday. Good staff, tho.

I use to frequent this restaurant often, with that said I stopped going here after I saw the health score of a 67. The prices went up portions went down and the dish I would get every time for over a year had shrimp and they removed it from my dish because of price increases. They increased my dinner price but removed things I usually got. Also you never know when the air is working and so you burn up and getting questions over our bill when you get ready to pay almost every time like you were stealing something was frustrating. We won’t be going back to Don Alejo. If you want better food, better atmosphere and better service then go to Julia’s it’s about 2 minutes away from Don Alejo. Julia’s is the best Mexican restaurant in Hartselle. So hit up Julia’s you won’t be disappointed. Ask for Lesi or Chewy they are my favorite waiters there I have followed them for years unintentionally. Also I think Kylie from Don Alejo’s should join Julia’s she was my favorite there

Hands down the best Mexican food I've ever had! Everyone that works here is an absolute delight. I love the environment, the decor, the bar... I just love every single thing about this place. Great prices, great service and great food. What else could you possibly ask for? HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND 😋

Food was mediocre, service was very poor. Not interested in waiting nearly 30 minutes just to get a bill so we could pay and never go back here again. Not recommended. Hartselle is not a good town for food choices altogether.
