If forced to describe Jefferson’s in one word it would be . . . ehh.

I took my family there for dinner. Due to the newness, we expected a delay in seating. The hostess informed our three-person party to expect a 30-minute wait for a table. No problem. We waited. The hostess was correct.

While waiting, the manager gave us a coupon for a free appetizer. I did not know if this was a promotion to celebrate their recent opening or if my scraggly appearance left her thinking I needed some sort of food assistance. I am most certain it was part of their opening.

We were shown to our table, a booth to be exact. The booth was long enough for six, or maybe eight if you have small kids. The distance between the seat and the side edge of the table was quite spacious, indeed big enough for even the most rotund individual to fit comfortably (I know because I am one of the well-rounded individuals.)

Our waitress took our drink orders and free appetizer – fried mushrooms was our choice – and brought them to our table without incident. We then proceeded to order; one Jefferson’s Chicken Sandwich (grilled), a Chicken Tenders Basket (5-piece), and 15 Traditional Chicken Wings (divided among two sauces, five medium, ten teriyaki.)

Upon arrival, the food looked good. However, the waitress pointed out that the cooks did not follow the instructions for the wing count, and I received six medium and seven teriyakis. I know because the waitress and I counted together. Even more noticeable was the total wing count of 13, not 15 as I ordered. The waitress went to the kitchen and returned with two more teriyaki. Overall, not the end of the world, but made me question if the cooks were paying attention or maybe some combination of understaffed, unprepared, or just new to the kitchen. The wings also came with tortilla chips, very thin and quite salty tortilla chips.

My wife remarked that her grilled chicken sandwich was plain, very lacking flavor. Additionally, her fries were cold in the middle.

My son was pleased with his tenders, and his fries seemed to be fresh. My wife took a bite of his tenders and concurred with his assessment.

We did not venture to the bar but did see the area. It appears to be a good place to get a beer and watch the games.

I was enthusiastic about the sports bar’s opening in Hartselle, hoping maybe it was the start of a revolution away from the cliched vintage stores that adorn Hartselle with faux rusted old signs such as “Lost Socks” and “Gathering” or reproduction Coke trays. Maybe there is a shift coming where a couple more establishments open with a bar and have a Thursday Ladies Night, a Karaoke Night, and Happy Hour throughout the week. If they do, I hope they have better food then Jefferson’s.

Overall, I would equate Jefferson’s wings to Buffalo Wild Wings, just okay. In fact, so much so that my wife thought Jefferson’s might be an off shoot of Buffalo Wild Wings, similar to the stories of Phil Sandoval breaking away from Rosie’s. We may try again, but most likely burgers next time. As for right now, Jefferson’s will not be emptying any spots from OH! Bryan’s parking lot.

Disappointed with my first ever experience. Can't comment on the food because no one ever waited on us. Purposely went when the traffic was low. Didn't get service because all the wait staff were present but standing around talking to each other. Maybe we'll try again

We went here to eat lunch today. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The food was great. We had fried pickles, southwest wrap/fries, and jalapeño burger/fries. Enjoyed everything and we will be back. Glad to have Jefferson’s in Hartselle :)

Friendly and efficient service, great food, and a nice and quiet downtown. Highly recommend the Firecracker Shrimp and the Wings (psst; ask them to Double Dip it!)
