My friend and I came to Jake’s to have lunch. We stood at the counter and no one took our order. I asked the lady, do we place our order here or sit and be waited on? Her response was, you place your order and then be seated. We waited for about 15 minutes and no one took our order. Only two people were seated in dining area. So we left, no one asked us to come back or no one said we will be with you in a minute. Will not return.

The food was okay nothing special about it the smothered pork chop were just fried with gravy poured on top of them. They were salty and the collard greens were tough.

This place has excellent food. They're kind of pricey. Depending on the day of the week, you're gonna wait for your food.If you're dining in. Enjoy

This is not a negative review towards the business. It is more informative concerning an employee. I have visited this establishment many times, and received great service. However, during my last visit my experience with the cashier was disappointing. The total amount of my order was $26.51. In addition, I placed a $5.00 tip in the clear glass container beside the register. I did not leave a tip on my receipt. I noticed a few days later that $35.51 cleared my account. Honestly, I thought maybe the cost was more but I remembered the cashier telling me that it was $26.00 and some change. Later, I found my receipt and I was correct in the total amount of $26.51. There was a $9.00 tip added to my bill by someone there. This is dishonesty and stealing. It is only $9.00 but it was debited without my consent. The owner/management staff need to be made aware that this has happened. I hope that this will not happen to other customers. Also, I sent a message through Facebook as well to make the company aware of what is going on within the business, and to get a response back. Other than my recent experience, this is a great place to dine.

I’m about 7 1/2 months pregnant and was craving soul food on this Saturday. I googled some soul food spots and went straight to Hoover to try Jake’s everything was absolutely delicious and fulfilled my cravings. I got jerk chicken (wanted to try turkey wings but they were out) collard greens, cabbage , and Mac n cheese even the cornbread was delicious and I don’t eat cornbread like that. Very tasty and delicious I’ll be back i promise. My baby was turning around in my belly they like it as well !! Thank you 5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Food was very aromatic and fresh when it arrived, chicken was very tender. I would definitely recommend the curry chicken.

The service was great and my food came fast. However, the food was not as good as the service. I got the Kingston Plate and the best thing was the jiffy cornbread. Yes Jiffy! The rice and beans were ok but the meats were trash. The oxtails were on the tender side however they lacked seasoning and flavor. The jerk chicken had a burnt taste but the meat of the chicken was flavorless. The worst of all was the curry chicken. It was old and dry. I mean you can see that it was cooked days prior and the curry sauce was not spicy and very watery. The plantain was ok. I would not go again. By the way I went at lunch time approximately 11:30am and it was not busy. I was the only customer.

Oh my was this food delicious! We took a gamble when we pulled off to get gas, and we were NOT disappointed! My husband is picky with collards and he absolutely loved the collards. If there are TVs in the dining area we just wish there was something playing other than a commercial for the restaurant that we are currently eating in. Now, bring Jake’s to NC!

The street to get there is a little dicey but once you get in there the food is pretty good! The sides we had were Mac & Cheese, Collard Greens, Fried Okra, Cornbread, and Mashed Sweet Potato. Every side we had was bussin! Cornbread was a little dry but still good! Okra was fresh, Mac & Cheese was hittin different and the Greens were greening! Best I've had from fast food in awhile! Now the Chicken was a little big and I know that throws some people off but honestly it was okay too. I've had better but the side were worth it alone! If you're out near the Galleria give it a shot if you feel like soul food!
