Ryu Japanese Steakhouse, Pho & Sushi Bar

3 misses in a row now. We honestly love Ryu’s food (it’s my favorite of any Japanese rest. In there greater bham area) BUT the last three times we’ve went we were met by temporary closing or no sushi signs on the door. I completely get staffing shortages but at least post something on your social media pages or GBP when things happen so folks don’t make hour drives one way for nothing. All that plus times we’ve seen management loudly talking bad about the staff just makes us hesitant to try again.

Do NOT believe the review below. None of that ever happened. If you believe a person that says the pricing of our restaurant is $1-10, you already know who’s lying. We also do not have a curtain where the chef comes out of. I even have screenshots of the storybook fantasy review he gave in case he deletes & edits again. How would you feel if someone makes up a whole imaginary scenario that never happened at your business/workplace?.Defaming a restaurant because you want to gather up with your friends is despicable.Bitter & miserable with your lives & have nothing better to do than to edit, lie, & exaggerate with their reviews from 6 months ago ??.Also our chef would NEVER do that as our health regulations are near perfection & at a 98%. Who would do that? Anybody with a brain knows better than that. Bro…?

The reason for this review is because they had a dog in the kitchen barking very loud and when the staff was asked he said that's the owners dog...We go their for lunch but that will not be happening anymore!!!

I have worked in the sushi industry and I have to say this is hands down the best sushi in Hoover. Rock n roll who?? Ryu sincerely has some of the best quality I’ve had and at such a reasonable price.

We decided to try this for the first time @ lunch. Howard was very courteous, professional & attentive to our needs!!He brought everything we asked for—never had to repeat anything. We ordered the bento boxes—I had the tempura—not my favorite choice for veggies, but the best tempura I have eaten in AL! Even the fried rice was delish, although could’ve used some peas & carrots in it—& I’m very picky about my rice! Salad was very crisp & fresh, & the California roll tasted fresh and good—not made yesterday like a lot of other bento boxes I have tried!! Their sauces are delish & they were generous with the rice portions! The next time I come, they promised to make a vegetarian tofu with my vegetable bento box!! My husband’s salmon bento box was also good—salmon tasted fresh! I am looking forward to coming back again!!

Vegetarian options: The vegetarian options are limited; I would like to see more veggies offered or a larger salad portion. They are willing to make the tofu teriyaki vegetables in a bento box next time I come to eat there! I am looking forward to that since everything else I ate tasted soo good!!!

Parking: There is a huge parking lot in this strip mall—no lack whatsoever!

Dietary restrictions: I am allergic to onions & there were no bits of onions or any onions in my food! There are careful about food allergens & our server Howard paid close attention to it all!

Delicious food, great atmosphere, and very welcoming staff.I asked if they offer gluten-free options and they very well accommodated my request. I got steamed rice, shrimp, and vegetables. It was delicious, will definitely go back.

We unfortunately won't be back. Restaurant didn't seem that busy when we walked in, but we were told there was a 15-20 minute wait for our party of 4, which is reasonable. However, when we were seated, we then waited for over 60 minutes for our chef to come to our area. We had already decided to leave as he was rolling up to our area. Our waitress tried to charge us the entire cost of our dinner, even though we did not receive it.

BEST BIRTHDAY EVER! The only hibachi I’ve ever had that came with noodles. The food was so flavorful and everyone who works there was kind. Chef was hilarious, waiter was attentive, and the portions were HUGE. So happy and can’t wait for another reason to go back.
