My wife and I visited Civitas one evening for dinner and, as several other reviews mentioned, were very surprised at the sparse number of customers. I understand restaurants cannot always control the number of people that visit, however, it was a little awkward to be one of only two tables being served. Food and service were decent, but the drinks were sub-par for the price. Overall, we had a pleasant evening, but there's little about Civitas that stands out amongst the competition in the area.

Nice little restaurant and bar in English Village. We just happened upon this place by accident and thought we'd give it a shot. The hamburgers were delicious. I highly recommend this place.

We had a 6:45 reservation on a Saturday night and was surprised to find how empty this place was. For the price point it was awkward how quiet and empty it was. The tables were not set and lacked decor. Despite the lack of busy tables, the drinks took forever to arrive. The food however did arrive promptly and was tasty! But they were out of the steak. If you are needing a last minute reservation for a large group this is the place.

Great atmosphere, delicious food and incredible staff. Go have lunch or dinner, you’ll be happy you did!
We really enjoyed our meal at Civitas. The food and service were wonderful. The atmosphere was fantastic, allowing for a great intimate dining experience.
There were mixed reviews online, but we braved ahead on our own. We were not let down. It wasn't busy, especially for Saturday night, but we had a fantastic meal. The fried okra and deviled eggs for appetizers were superb! The four of us each had different meals, and each of us commented on just how wonderful it was. The service was perfection. I have nothing but great things to say about this place. I know we will return and you should try it when in Mountain Brook.

We had a great experience at their happy hour! The server and manager who helped us were great and so fun to talk to. Their happy hour deals are AMAZE. Will be spending all summer there.
I made reservations here for my sister's 50th birthday celebration. Called Tuesday to confirm and was told that the restaurant was bought out for that evening. Reservations were made three weeks ago and no one called to inform me that there were issues. Now I'm stuck having to find another restaurant 4 days before the celebration. ?
Quaint spot. Great fries. Deviled eggs and pimento cheese were good. Entrees (avocado salad, redfish sandwich, chicken finger, burger) were good as well.

I don't usually leave reviews unless it's to be positive, but we had a pretty lame night here. They only had three people working front of house - we didn't really have a waiter - and no one acknowledged they were having a bad night. Don't blame staff for how they are staffed - but they definitely had too many tables going for how many people were working. We only got 2 apps and 5 burgers/sandwiches and it took two hours to get our food. They were apparently out of buns - which wasn't mentioned beforehand - my fries were the stuff leftover at bottom of the fryer - and the burger was overcooked. They also had an order wrong - so one of our people didn't get his food until we were all done which they didn't acknowledge either. Would have had better food at some place like five guys. Leaving two stars because I still ate the food
They were obviously understaffed, but never acknowledged that. The server for our table never came the entire time; we were served by what I believe was the host. The sandwiches we ordered didn’t come with buns, but with soggy, sliced wheat bread. Never acknowledged they had run out of certain parts of the entree. Overall, if they were understaffed, they should have said something, asking for patience, which we were after we realized only 3 people were on the floor for the entire evening. They brought the wrong meal for a person in our party, and took them a while to get the correct meal out. We ordered bottles of wine, apps, and entrees, definitely gave them the business and opportunity to redeem our experience. It was lackluster to say the least.
The Caesar salad was very under-whelming. Lettuce with barely perceivable specs of parmesan. The croutons (toasted bread) we're ok, but did not make up for the lack of anything special for the 13.00 price tag. The dressing? There was a small bit on there somewhere ..not impressive. I could do a much better job in my own home for a lot less money. The service was fine, but the lack of artistry and taste for the price paidin the food diminishes the value considerably.
The host was very accommodating and helpful. My party of nine was seated immediately at a roomy table. We ordered two appetizers, the pimento cheese and toast was excellent, warm, tasty and beautifully presented. I cannot brag about the shrimp and grits, it was not served steaming hot and the shrimp was over cooked and therefore tough. I cannot speak for the rest of the group but no bragged about their meal.Kerri was our server, she was very helpful and a professional.
Food was fine, nothing standout spectacular but nothing really bad either. Service seemed to be struggling a bit though, like my husband ordered an IPA but because they were out they just brought him a random beer instead of asking what he might like instead. Overall though it was justOK, not sure I'd revisit based on our groups general feedback.
