Breakfast with my mother and her church group. Pastor’s wife paid for the meal…she expected gratuity to be added as we were a group of 8+. What she didn’t expect was the card machine (that was brought to the table) would ask for another tip. Pastor’s wife thought it was confirmation of the previous gratuity accepted the charge but then realized a few minutes later she tipped the waitress 50%. The waitress was not 50% tip waitress. Anyway she mentioned better communication to the waitress the waitress told the manager or owner who came out to discuss with the pastor’s wife. When she mentioned the 50% tip he said “yes, thank you.” Now…here’s the problem…he knew the pastor’s wife wasn’t happy about that tip and he knew she was telling him that better communication would’ve been appreciated. He stated they’d been charging people “like this for 6 years and there’s never been a problem.” He said a little more of nothing but here’s the best part…after asking if we were a church group he got down eye level (we were all seated), he proceeded to tell us that church groups usually don’t tip well but he would fix the check. The pastor’s wife looked so hurt…I wanted to cuss him out. Pastor’s wife asked “what did I tell you when we first spoke?” He stated “I don’t know.” She stated “I don’t want you to fix the check I just wanted to let you know that this could’ve been handled better.” He walked away and said nothing. There was another couple in the dining room with us but they weren’t with us. They were also charged gratuity (not sure if that was fixed at check out). I’ll be honest this restaurant smells moldy, service is mediocre to disrespectful (at least for us…we’d never been there before and it seemed like everyone was enjoying themselves until the very end), and the food isn’t special. Honestly I had the breakfast bowl…small portion of grits, 2 pieces of sausage cut in half to look like 4 pieces, and 1 scrambled egg…no toast or biscuit unless added for an extra charge. The only reason I’d eat here again is if it were the last place open on earth and even then I’d eat doo doo over this place due to service.

Came for the fried pie, didn’t get to try! Waited over 20 mins after we all got done eating, no refills either btw, to order the dessert I literally just drove from Oxford for and never got a chance to order. Had to stand up and start getting ready to leave before we even got any attention from our waitress. Still even then never got asked for deserts, just a check. So felt like we not wanted, so we took the hint, paid, and left. Been told the pies were excellent, but guess I’ll go back and tell them otherwise. Oh and it wasn’t busy at all, just seemed talking to friends and other guest was more important.

Eating at Grandmother’s house is like stepping back in time. It’s reminiscent of everything I loved about going to my own grandmother’s house to eat. The atmosphere is nostalgic. The food is about as southern as it gets. Be sure to go for breakfast and order the homemade cinnamon rolls! YUMMY! And don’t forget to order the fried okra for lunch. Last, the servers and wait staff are so friendly and eager to enhance your dining experience. You really do feel loved after eating at Grandmother’s House.

Tight quarters and always busy (especially when a church bus is in the parking lot!). But if you're looking for "grandma's home cookin" from your childhood, then this is it. No matter your choice, it's fantastic. See y'all again soon.

My first trip. My kids took me for my birthday. Great food except they ran out of biscuits. Chocolate gravy and toast? Hmm

Went back and had plenty of biscuits. ?

Had another great meal at Grandmother’s House this past Sunday for lunch. Service was great and prompt as usual. I enjoyed the chicken dressing with okra and green beans while my wife had baked fish with corn and green beans. So much food to enjoy.
See you again soon

I am a server at this restaurant, and have been for about a year now. I can say with full confidence that Wenona and her son Don, as well as the rest of the staff at this place, are some of the best people around. Wenona will wash dishes, help us bus, and she works to help us servers all the time as the OWNER of this beautiful place! She works so hard, and I have the absolute most respect for her humility and passion for this place. I look forward to seeing the people who work here every Sunday. We servers are prayed for every morning by them, and are always lifted up through their kindness and AMAZING chicken tenders. The food is my favorite, and sweet tea has become something of gold to me. More then anything, this restaurant gives everyone who comes in a chance to feel apart of a community that loves the Lord and good food! Thank you to all who continue to support this restaurant, and for those who don't, please understand that everyone who works here will have eachother's back. Especially Wenona's.

We went to eat today on the referral of a friend from church who bragged on this restaurant. It was AWFUL. Food was cold. Dressing tasted like it came from Stove Top. I understand we showed at your final sitting but for the owner to come out and roll her eyes like dare us to say anything bad about her cooking because she had won awards. Well today you won the You Get a F award. We won’t be back and we will tell everyone to stay far away. Far too expensive to be treated like we were. Stay Away. Go to Longhorn. Jesus. Go to Hardee’s. Galen’s is 100 times better and less expensive. Just stay away from here.
