Finally made it to Stephensons which is in Bob Garner’s NC Barbecue book and was not disappointed. The Bar-b-q was outstanding ! Also the hush puppies and Tea was great. Finally, the place was packed at lunchtime and service fast.

I recently was in Clayton NC for a business meeting, and a "local" suggested we visit Stephenson's. Excellent recommendation. This is an old-style NC barbecue restaurant, with great food, fast service, and nothing pretentious. The real deal. Try it!

We saw this place while in route to another destination. We decided to give it a shot. We were not disappointed. The barbecued ribs and pork were extremely good! The price was reasonable as well. Would definitely go back!

This place is right on Route 50, but is primarily visited by locals. They have good BBQ and chicken both fried and BBQ'd. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are good size.

Food was bland and not great.Cole slaw was the only thing on the family style menu that was worth seconds. Atmosphere was kinda blah. High priced. Unfortunately, won't return.

Bbq has great smokey flavor. However the sauce has to much vinegar.
