Great food. Nice atmosphere. Best restaurant in Samson by far. It was disappointing that the bartender was extremely rude and unprofessional.

Absolutely Incredible Dining Experience!
We had an amazing meal at The Ginger Root in Samson, Alabama. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by warm, friendly staff who instantly made us feel welcome. The entire restaurant was beautifully decorated for Christmas—cozy, festive, and full of charm. Even the bathroom was decked out and added to the holiday cheer!
We started with the pork belly and Brussels sprouts appetizer, and wow—just wow. The pork belly was the best I’ve ever had in any restaurant. Perfectly cooked, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and packed with flavor. The Brussels sprouts were just as impressive, finished with a sweet-heat glaze that was absolutely to die for.
My husband ordered the prime rib, which was incredibly tasty and cooked perfectly. I chose the lobster risotto, and it exceeded every expectation—creamy, rich, and topped with an entire lobster tail. Truly delicious.
Everything from start to finish was exceptional. If you’re anywhere near Samson, make sure you stop by The Ginger Root—you will not be disappointed!

We had a delicious meal last night at The Ginger Root in Samson, AL. Full of flavor with Quality ingredients. The service was great and we were greeted by the owner too. I love that only 10 minutes away from home there is a total 'foodie' restaurant to enjoy great food and a lovely atmosphere. They easily accommodated our gluten free requirements and we were able to have dessert too! It is easy to see the owners passion to create unique dishes full of flavor in a welcoming environment! Love this! If you have never tried The Ginger Root, put it on your list of must go places!
Fantastic meal again. We frequently choose to make the drive over to Samson from Geneva to support this great restaurant. It blows my mind how this place does not stay packed. Affordable options, fantastic food and great atmosphere. If you live within 30 miles of this place you need to go eat some great food. And go often!! My wife and I love it.
I got the burger plate and my wife got cilantro lime rice chicken. Those two dishes may sound simple, but they blew us away. It’s definitely an elevated experience and food despite being simple dishes! Highly recommend!!

The food here is fantastic — everything tastes fresh and well-prepared. The only downside is they don’t have many gluten-free options for people with allergies, but otherwise it’s a great spot. They could have more gluten-free options but they just need to make sure they keep separate oil and utensils.
My boyfriend and I had our second visit to The Ginger Root on Friday, October 3, 2025. We were not disappointed - it was better than our first visit. The braised ribs and shrimp Fettuccine were delicious. The food was creative and excellent. We were a little disappointed that we did not get to see the smiling face of Keshia Hall (the owner). We had just missed her. She makes the dining experience seem so very special and personal. We, once again, had the delicious bread pudding for dessert. Yummy 😋 Molly, the waitress, was so friendly and efficient. It’s nice to find such a special place to eat out in such a sweet, small town.
I want to let you know how disappointed we have been several times and last night we went for my birthday and not only was my fish completely overcooked, but the waitresses two of them didn’t even know what the fish of the day was. This is unacceptable inexperienced staff and it’s not their fault it’s your fault you need to train your staff. We only went there because it’s here in town. We are local and I doubt we’ll ever be back again.
We’ve been hearing about this lovely and wonderful restaurant and we finally made it here for our 45th anniversary celebration!!! We would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an amazing dining experience, great service! Our server Rhya was a delight and Keisha, the owner of this stellar, comfortable and enjoyable establishment was vey gracious and welcoming! The food here is definitely worth the drive! I would rate it as a five-star restaurant!!!

Cute restaurant. Let me preface with that we have never been to this restraunt and am likely to never go back. Our Server was very young and we tried to keep that in mind, but she didnt know what the house wine was and had to go ask, but wanted us to order before she walked away so we ordered appetizers. After 5 minutes she comes back to let us know what it was, so we ordered 1 glass of wine and place our order for food. My husband ordered a pork chop with 2 sides and an extra side salad I order filet with a salad and potato. She walked to the table next to us and I over hear the them asking about specials, she tells them there is a special for the exact steak i ordered with a lobster tail as well..... so i catch her and change my order and add a side salad. My husband wanted a NY Sour but since she didn't know about the alchol at all he went to the bar to order. The bartender didn't know how to make one so she looked it up and let's just say it wasn't good, not sure what she put in it but I was not right. Our appetizers came out pretty fast...... my wine 20 minutes later I asked about it the waitress ran down to check on it because she can't serve it so she didnt even verify I had gotten it. Now my wine comes but no salads.... we waited over 50 minutes for our main course. When it came there was no salads, so I told her to just skip them and to please just bring me a steak knife since I never received one. My filet was over cooked at medium on both ends with the middle medium rare, which is what I ordered. My husbands pork chop was dry over cooked, which is sad because we raise pigs and know how it should taste. We were so frustrated we threw more then enough cash in with the check and left. The tip really should have went to the singer who was the only good part of the evening.

I'm giving service just 3 stars because our server was new and quite young (not old enough to serve alcohol). She was sweet but her inexperience showed.

Disappointing Experience at a Long-Time Favorite
We have been loyal patrons of The Ginger Root since they opened and have always loved dining there. Unfortunately, our experience last night was extremely disappointing—and if this reflects the new standard, we won’t be making the trip to Samsung anymore.
All three salmon dishes at our table were overcooked and lacked the flavor and presentation we’ve come to expect. The entrees felt uninspired and fell flat compared to past visits.
Service was also subpar. Our waitress seemed inexperienced—our water glasses remained empty for most of the meal, and I was never offered a refill on my Diet Coke. These may seem like small things, but they add up, especially when you’re paying over $250 for four people.
That said, the two appetizers were excellent and reminded us of the quality we used to associate with The Ginger Root. We truly hope this was just an off night, but it was disappointing enough to make us reconsider future visits.
