I give it a only 3 star because I really think it “could” be better than our first experience. Since the food was mosty good, so I give it the benefit of the doubt, b/c they’re fairly new. I hope they get more reviews, listen and learn from my and other suggestions . If I’m back in a few months and see no change, it will be my last. My husband and I went this first time just to try it out. We shared the pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato fries and a side of fried okra. Everything tasted very good. BUT the sandwich was made with a cheap hamburger bun that had no hold the medium portion of meat, and fell apart as we tried to eat the sandwich. I suggested to the server that owners spend a little more of the highish $9.99 price they charged, to use better quality rolls. Owners are out of town for a while now, but she said she’d pass the suggestion to the owners. The atmosphere is overwhelmingly poor. A plain dark room, black tables, taped chairs and plain dark walls with no decor. The room and walls cried for some/any adornment for a more welcome feeling. . It wouldn’t take must expense to improve it. There was only one other person at a table when we arrived after church, but several more came later. There was dead silent, , except for the spinning of a ceiling fan, the entire time. Maybe some background music would help? … until they get more people’s voices to make it sound like a real restaurant. So, not knowing anything about the rest of their food, which may be good, unless they improve the above mentioned, they’ll only survive as a chow -hall and not a place to enjoy eating with friends. I hope they make enough improvements, soon enough to succeed, for their and the town’s sake. .
My wife and I drove over one evening while we were in the area. We had been looking for a place to eat supper and found this in calico rock. We were met by the most enjoyable young man who is our server for the evening. He was working there with his mom during the week. We had the taco salad and hamburger steak. Both were really good. My wife ordered the butter scotch malt for a dessert. Our server recommended that we have it there instead of to go. He said he could make it a lot fancier for us.This is a great family run place and we would highly recommend it.
The Restaurant is the kind of unpretentious and charming place that I cherish. My husband and I were celebrating an anniversary and happened upon The Restaurant in Calico, Rock. The best biscuits and gravy I have ever had, great coffee and personable service. We were checked on frequently and my vegetarian omelette was perfect. We liked it so much we ate there also for dinner and the hamburger steak was sublime with grilled onions, green peppers and mushrooms. We had the sweet young lady to bring us our orders. She was new and I enjoyed her conscientiousness. If you find yourself in Calico Rock don’t fail to stop at this gem.
Quick service! Super helpful server. Friendly, courteous, great attitude! Food was freshly prepared and delicious! HUGE portions! I’d say some one of the best chocolate/peanut milkshakes that I’ve had the pleasure of devouring! And cheesecake- Gourmet! Thank you for operating sure a fine establishment!! We will be back!!
My cousin and I ordered the the special on the menu, meatloaf, with mashed potatoes, gravy, coleslaw and okra. It was awesome and yummy! Thank you! Great service and wonderful hospitality. Will be back! A 5 Star Restaurant.
