“Hello, my name is Spike! Until today I had been clean, no Larb for 5 months.

Thai Chicken Bowl operates in an old gas station in Charleston, AR. It is a bare bones mom and pop operation. The restaurant is barren of décor and a vacuum of ambiance. Order at the counter. The food is delivered to your table. Minimal, but adequate service.

For some reason, I don’t know why I ordered the stinky beef Larb. I just don’t know why. Too late now. I liked this Laotian version even with the smelly overtones of fish sauce. Am I hooked on Larb, or is it self-mortification? Neither, I think I have accepted the challenge to master my phobia of fish sauce. And frankly I have found that good Larb is well ….pretty good. The description on the menu “Spicy Beef” sucked me in. The meal was filled with thin sliced steak, noodles some type of greens, seasoned with chili pepper and a vinegary sauce. Not too bad. My wife had the Coconut Fried Rice with Chicken. A big plate of food, but not outstanding taste. The Egg Drop soup was fair. It could have been a little hotter (temp).

The restaurant has a big varied menu. Chicken Fried Rice seems to be the restaurant’s signature dish. Charleston is a small town. I’m thinking the locals appreciate having an Asian food option.“
