This time I am reviewing the little restaurant and bar that one can enter from the street or through Heights Corner Market; it's called Walter's Green Room, I think. This little room with interior brick painted green has a few small tables, a bar, and one waitperson who delivers orders to the kitchen in the market then reappears with your order. She was very nice and attentive. The menu was limited the day I went, but there was a nice variety of salads and soups on offer. I chose the chilled gazpacho and garden salad with salmon on top. The gazpacho was as good as I've ever tasted, including when I was in Spain. My only suggestion would be to offer croutons on top since you need bread or crackers to offset the vinegar. When I inquired about that, I was permitted to step into the adjoining market to grab any bread or cracker, which I paid for later in the store. As for the salmon, it was cooked just as I'd specified. As for the atmosphere, this seems to be a very comfortable little spot for the residents of this "old money" neighborhood (very close to the Country Club) to come for lunch or to sit and visit over iced tea or something harder.

Small dining room makes for an intimate experience. The food was perfect. We had strawberry shortcake for dessert..it was fabulous. Loves it. Will go back.

We'd never been to Walter's Green Room/HCM and they were offering a special 5 course menu for New Years that we were excited to try. The Green Room itself is a small coffee shop/lounge situation with a bar, a couple conversation circles but only a few tables that were set for larger parties. I was curious where they were going to sit a couple, and our host took us out into the Market. Various tables were set up and down the center aisles, ours was next to shelves with pasta and sauce. I don't know if this is their normal set up or if it was this way for the holiday crowd. It was certainly a bit odd, but also kinda fun and we were here for a new experience. In a few minutes of being seated the lights came down, the candles were lit, the wine was poured and the fact we were in the middle of a grocery store just faded away. The service all night was excellent, the crowd really started gathering about 6ish and they were working hard, but never missed a beat. Okay, what you really want to know about is the food. Again this was a special holiday menu, we have yet to try the regular menu, but we will be back to discover it. For this night, the appetizer was a shrimp in patte on a cracker. Sounds simple but whatever was in that patte was totally delicious. Next course was soup or salad, we went with the soup, cream of mushroom. It was rich and yummy. We both agreed we'd never had better. Next course we went for was a scallop dish. Small scallops served with some kind of cheese and bacon deliciousness served in a nest of crispy potato sticks and topped with just a bit of cranberry. It was amazing to look at and just as amazing to eat. Next, the entree. I went for Veal Scallopini Marsala, she went for the Chateaubriand. The veal was flavorful and the crust stayed crispy in the sauce. The Cheateau had a wonderful smoke to it and was melt-in-your-mouth tender. My wife said its was "absolute perfection" and that is saying something. Everything was perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned including the mashed potatoes and asparagus on the side. We've eaten at many of the fine dining establishments in Little Rock over the years but this was the best meal yet. Love it! We will be back.
