Not the same Root Cafe as it used to be.I was an avid fan of this restaurant, it was essentially my favorite restaurant in Little Rock. My wife and I and our daughter went there recently for dinner and were pretty disappointed. I ordered the hot chicken which was a $19 plate and she ordered the meat loaf which was about $20. We were both disappointed in the portions. For $19 I expected more than two small chicken tenders on top of a spoonful of greens and a gelatinous rectangle of macaroni & cheese. My wife had a similar experience with the meatloaf and mashed potatoes. They even looked small in the plates.Last time I’d ordered the hot chicken it felt like I was getting what I was paying for. But honestly I could’ve been happier with getting Popeye’s or some other chicken place.I also ordered the bread pudding and they’ve changed the recipe of that to something that did not resemble their usual bread pudding but rather it was some other concoction with melted butter all over it (rather than the icing they used to put on it).The service was fine but it felt like they were trying to entertain me and it just felt weird and off (almost like they were compensating for the food).I won’t be returning to this restaurant and it feels like a trend I’m seeing now with most local places now where a meal is not worth what you’re paying. If this is what supporting local restaurants means, then I’m going to find someone else that makes it worth supporting.

I was extremely concerned….We got the Egg Salad and the Original Brat- they were awesome. Then we shared a carrot cake and bread pudding. You know if you love your fellow man sometimes you just have to take one for the Team- I am such a giver- I have decided to save everyone else- I asked them to give the rest of the carrot cake and bread pudding to me!!!!!A great place to eat and chill.V/RDr Charles Thompson

Fantastic house burger, with equally fantastic side salad. Salad dressing was so great that we wanted to see if they sold it and we were happy to find they bottle and sell it! Sparkling lavender lemonade was more sour than sweet which is actually my preference. Combo fry basket was plenty for 2 people and they were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Very glad we got to try this place on our way through town!

The food, service, and atmosphere are all OFF THE CHARTS. Most inclusive cafe I've ever been to in my life, and they played Andrew Bird while I was eating here. So if you ask me, it is a 100/10 place to be. Well worth waiting in line. Your food is coming blazing out of the kitchen anyway, and it is going to be delicious. This place is one of the reasons I want to move to Little Rock! I would be here every day!Vegetarian options: The Root takes the guesswork out of your decision-making with clearly labeled vegetarian and grain-free menu items so that the only dilemma will be which type of delicious you're in the mood for.Parking: The parking lot is small, but we did not have any trouble finding a space when we were there. Tables seem to flip fairly quickly because the kitchen is staffed by people going totally beast mode in every way possible, so you shouldn't have an issue. For context, we were there at lunch time after the eclipse, so people were out in droves. Still no issues.Kid-friendliness: This place is pet- and family-friendly. Plenty of youngsters and furbabies shared the space with no issues.

The four of us really enjoyed our own entrees. The food was very good, the service was even better - especially during a very busy solar eclipse weekend. A C very unique menu.
