This is the very best place to eat. I always go here when in Why.

Great food. Great service, what else could you ask for. In the middle of nowhere.

I love this place. If I'm heading to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument to explore, I always make sure I make time to have breakfast or lunch at Granny's. The staff is always super nice and the food is top notch diner material, with great Mexican food options. I took a visiting friend from Michigan there a few months ago and she's still fondly discussing the huevos rancheros.

Upon entering Granny’s Kitchen, I immediately felt as though I had trespassed into the lobby of a midwestern time machine powered by soup ladles and 1983 wallpaper. The air smelled faintly of maple syrup and unresolved family arguments. A ceiling fan spun above me with the confidence of a philosophy major explaining Kierkegaard at a gas station.

The pancakes were less food and more a metaphysical event—golden discs that could have been mistaken for miniature UFO landing pads if only the syrup hadn’t drowned them in sweet gravity. I asked for coffee and received what I can only describe as “liquid optimism strained through the fabric of Arizona’s sunlight.”

My waitress, who may or may not have been named Janet (or perhaps the reincarnation of a Victorian candle), brought me a plate of eggs that gazed back at me like twin suns over Tatooine. Somewhere in the corner, a man in a straw hat whispered the word “Why” as if it were both the question and the answer.

By the time I left, I wasn’t sure if I had eaten breakfast or auditioned for a surrealist play. Granny’s Kitchen is not so much a diner as it is an existential checkpoint where the road asks you who you really are, and you respond with hash browns.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5 stars, though the stars themselves seemed confused about why they were here.

Maybe I expected a bit mor being this close to the border. Sauce appeared to have come from a can; spouse and I were glad to be done with the meal and leave

Love this place! Excellent food, friendly people. Their hours are a little unusual, so be sure to check what times they are open before heading there.

08/2025 UPDATE - Still the best restaurant in the area, IMHO. If you love chickens, you will love the decor in this place. There are various chickens made from ceramics and other materials on shelves on the walls and other places.

The menu is nicely varied. Particularly good are their eggs & chorizo, burritos, carne asada, and other favorites. It's THE place to go when you're in Ajo, Sells, and especially if you're heading down to Puerto Piñasco!

Abbodanza, everyone!

I am Mexican and I approve this message 😊
I chose a carne asada burrito and my husband decided to go with white menudo. Both were good in flavor. Ladies were welcoming and friendly. We’ve passed by this place many times and we decided to make a stop this time. They have a wide selection from biscuits and gravy to machaca and eggs for breakfast. I would return 👍🏻 It was a Sunday morning and we were served quickly.

This little gem is a great place to get lunch when you're coming back from Rocky Point. We always stop for lunch here when we return home from RP. The food is delicious and it's clean and has plenty of seating. There's only one women's bathroom, but it's large and really clean and has lotion and bathroom spray. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

It’s the only option around… including Ajo, but they deliver! All of the immigration officers were in there ordering food if that says something, it’s really good.
The burrito didn’t look exciting but it was a great homemade flour tortilla and filled with meat, sauce, and great flavor. I’d come back for this.
The ladies running the place are nice people… viva la Mexico 🇲🇽
