The Sonoran Desert Conference Center is truly one of Ajo’s treasures. Nestled in a historic setting and surrounded by natural beauty, this place is more than just a conference center—it’s a celebration of the region’s culture, ecology, and community.

Whether you're attending an event, staying overnight, or simply exploring the grounds, you’ll find that every corner has a story to tell. It’s peaceful, inspiring, and beautifully connected to the Sonoran Desert landscape.

If you're visiting Ajo, make sure to stop by. Supporting places like this helps preserve the local history and environment we’re so proud of. It’s a meaningful experience worth every minute.

This is an outstanding oasis in the desert. The staff is outstanding and the hotel is clean and comfortable. A perfect place to be lost in the desert.

Although I did spot a few hairs and tiny black stains on the bed linens, those minor (and unfortunately fairly common for hotels/motels/inns) imperfections were not enough to dock a star from otherwise very clean, comfy, quiet place to spend night.

This is a charming hotel that used to be a school! The rooms are immaculate, the staff is friendly but low key, and the central courtyard has plenty of places to stop and read a book in the shade. I highly recommend it.

A bit spartan but gorgeous and unique. Loved it.

We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel! Rooms were clean and comfortable with an artsy touch! We were first disappointed that there were no TVs in the room but it forced us outside to the fire pit where we socialized until bedtime. Such a good stay thank you!

This place was horrible, the staff never came to clean the room or change the bedding then when I complained instead of taking care of the customer they canceled my reservation mind you I was there long term for work assisting border control not a very good welcome to Arizona for an out of towner 10/10 would not recommend

Great example how to repurpose an old facility. Rooms are modern and the place is well maintained. Note that everything is done online and there may not be a person at the “lobby” if you check in late. Also… your phone unlocks the room door. Don’t leave it in the room or you might be locked out.

Would recommend this to anyone who wants a unique experience in an out of the way location

Ajo is nostalgic to me, my family lived there, my parents were born there, my grandpa's worked in the mine. I am fascinated with the old mining towns in AZ. To me, Ajo is great. It is very quiet, and there are not many food options anymore. It is a one night kind of trip. The Inn was very cool it is a renovated elementary school that was part of the famous cvrley High School. It could have been a little bit cleaner as far as dust. I love the antiques, the bathroom was big, and the beds were comfy. My only complaint is no TV, and a pool or hot tub would be divine. So, if you are ready to dive into some history and visit the first open mine copper pit in AZ, come spend the night and check it out.I love Ajo, but personally, Jerome and Bisbee are my favorite for a lot of reasons , especially food and wine. Ajo, you need more food and wine. What happened to all the awesome Mexican food? Claudia's, The copper kettle, ext.

Sleep quiet; Bed cozy; Setting: renovated school building with new appiances and large court. We did not find a decent restaurant in Ajo. It is a good base for exploring Organ Pipe Cactus NM.
