We just moved to this side of town and randomly decided to eat here today. Oh my gosh we are so happy that we did. The service and overall atmosphere of the restaurant was phenomenal. Our waitress took the time to explain items on the menu. The quality of the food is 10/10. They use black rice for their sushi and everything tasted delicious. Prices are also very reasonable. Can’t wait to go back!

Delicious and creative sushi rolls. Jazz music in the background and the waiter staff so attentive The sushi is made with purple rice which is also called "forbidden" rice. Forbidden because in ancient China purple rice was reserved for the emperor only. Purple rice has a higher nutritional value than white rice. The textures and flavors were wonderful. We went on a date and the ambiance was relaxing and inviting. We loved the experience and the food was beyond amazing.

Oh my gosh, what a treat we found at Kodo Sushi Sake! We stopped by after having to leave another bar in town because it was too loud, and the atmosphere of Kodo was immediately so chill and welcoming.
Our server was Ms. Yunhee. She is an absolute TREASURE. If you get the chance, ask for her when you go dine in! Such a beautifully positive demeanor, and her service was attentive and excellent. We felt appreciated and taken care of. A really special place.
We had the chicken yakisoba which came in a huge portion! I ordered the miso soup, salmon nigiri, and gyoza, and they were all fabulous. The bar serves drinks in very generous stemware.
Great music, beautiful bathrooms, and relaxed clientele. It is rare indeed to have a truly joyful experience in dining, and this place was everything we needed. I can’t recommend Kodo Sushi Sake enough! Thank you for the wonderful service!

Parking: The spots in front of the building were all taken (Friday night), but there’s a huge parking lot right next to the building that we were able to park in with no problems.
Kid-friendliness: The patrons at the table behind us had a kid with them who was very happy!
Wheelchair accessibility: There is a section of the restaurant that is raised one step, but a large section by the bar is wheelchair accessible.

We eat a lot of sushi. Most places in Arizona like to load up on sauces to drown out the fact that each roll is basically the same thing. At Kodo Sushi sake most rolls had very little sauce. This allowed you to enjoy all the flavors. The portions of each roll and nigiri was A LOT! We will be back! Just try this place for yourself and you will see!!!
Kid-friendliness: They were so nice to our two year old! Gave our child chop stick helpers and put them on and showed our child how to use them!

It really pains me to leave this review. Kodo has been nothing but great to myself and my family over the years. However with the change in ownership and menu redesign / lack of lunch specials or remove of good rolls… It’s not what it used to be. They used to have black rice which was awesome and the cuts of sashimi were the best. The care and quality was above and beyond. After this ownership change it looks like Kodo is cheaping out and adding a lot of non sushi options while making their sushi less good overall. It’s cool if you wanna have a diverse menu, but don’t kill the iconic rolls. Like… who the hell puts alfalfa on a roll lol? Your old menu was FAR superior in the sushi department.
The staff is still great, I know a lot of them and they recognize me whenever I show up. The people and atmosphere are great. It’s the food I have an issue with now… I try to be fair but for a long time Kodo was my prime example of “this is how you do it right”, now it’s just the something I point to as a “do not do this, underwhelming and not worth it”.
I hope this is taken as constructive criticism and not just me ragging on Kodo. I can’t stress enough how much I used to love it.

Hadn't been here in a while. We knew something was different. Music was thumping and way too loud. New menu replaced standard write in Sushi sheets. Orange chicken was very dry but the Sushi was still good and our Server/Host was a young kid who gave us the best service we have had anywhere in a very long time. I hope the new owners will consider turning down the tunes and bringing back the old menu. We will be back and try it again in the future.

The sushi here is top-notch. You can really taste how fresh the fish is. Each roll is not only delicious but also beautifully made. They clearly put a lot of thought into the flavors and presentation.
The service is excellent. The staff are friendly, helpful, and know a lot about the food they serve.
