3rd time visiting, I have always ended up ordering more than I planned on because the drinks are so well made! the manager checking on us throughout our visit made me feel well cared for. also love that I paid in cash and the waitress did not bring me any coins back, very thoughtful.

You'll wend your way down the cement staircase to the tiny door that brings you into the Ostrich. It's located in what may once have been a dank basement (although AZ basements aren't especially known for that), of the San Marcos hotel. It's a space previously used to store things, specifically ostrich feathers. The stairs down are like a descent back in time. Once inside you find a room filled with tables and bar stools and historic booths from the famed Monte's La Casa Vieja which was once the jewel steakhouse of Mill avenue. The bartenders and waitresses are extremely attentive and enjoyable to interact with. You'll find an extensive menu of craft cocktails and delectable dishes. From appetizers to full entrees. Although the term speakeasy doesn't have anything to do with what it's like to try and have a conversation inside of this place, you won't find it very easy to have a conversation. When the place is half full it's incredibly loud and difficult to talk sitting at the same table. So if you don't really want to talk and you'd rather just have some fun food and great drinks definitely check out the Ostrich. If not just for the historic value.

I love this place. The meatballs remind me of being a kid. It's something about the taste. I tried the regular and special Buffalo Trace old fashions, and the BT is worth every penny. Best drink of the night! (Manhattan is second place) Oh, and best bartender of the valley. The talll guy is amazing.
