Oka Sushi

Wow! I am thoroughly impressed with this restaurant. We were driving home to Gilbert from Payson and decided to make a pit stop for lunch in Fountain Hills. Sushi sounded like the perfect cuisine after a day of strenuous hiking. First off, this place is absolutely gorgeous. Painted cement floors, large comfy booths, not to mention the beautiful artificial Bonsai tree in the center of the restaurant. Like another reviewer said, I'm not much on fake plants, but this was a nice touch and not too tacky. The service was pretty good, our server Emily checked in on us quite a bit. However, the best part of the experience was the food. I started with the Baked Scallop Dynamite Roll, which was phenomenal. My Dad loved his Lunch Fried Rice with Chicken as well. Surprisingly, the Miso Soup and House Salad we had on the side was delicious as well. Especially that salad, the dressing was to die for. Enough said, we'll be back to Oka for sure.

Despite it being busy, we were say quickly. Emily helped us out and she was awesome! Very attentive and was around when we needed her. Although we don’t live out this way, we would definitely be back!

Food was okay but honestly our server (Nicole) made our experience great she was very sweet and took great care of us! We definitely will be returning! Thank goodness there’s still decent people in this world!

While the food itself was excellent, the service left a lot to be desired... particularly in how I felt as a person of color. From the moment we walked in, no one greeted or smiled at us, so it set a noticeably cold tone. My husband who is white, received noticeably more attentive service from our server, Nicole. She repeatedly refilled his water when it was only halfway down and yet never once refilled mine, even though I was clearly in need. It felt like I was invisible to her and that kind of treatment is deeply disheartening.

To be clear, this wasn’t an isolated perception, I observed other tables who weren't poc receiving more balanced service. The only positive interaction came from another server who brought our food and kindly complimented my shirt. I genuinely wish she had been our server instead and I wish I caught her name. She was the sweetest.

This experience ruined what should’ve been a lovely evening. Businesses need to do better in treating all customers with respect and dignity, especially people of color.

This was the freshest sushi I've had period! It was yellow fin roll prepared with a citrus vinegarette and cilantro. Just a suggestion: it can be a good idea to ask the staff for a suggestion because this one turned out to be a winner. Would definitely recommend this place.

Cute little place with great california rolls!

I REALLY liked their food as there is nothing else good in town. But this is at least 5 orders in a row where I’ve had items left from our order not in the carry out bag so I think I’ve officially got to cross this off the list. Prices aren’t worth the inconvenience anymore

They have messed up my take out order multiple times. This last order they left out half of it. For the price, this is horrible service
